Eliminated: Fellas Sent Packing After Sluggish Performance

With much hype and excitment going into this game, The Fellas were ready to avenge their loss from last year in the semi-finals vs the the same opponent. However, on this night and for this year, it just wasn't meant to be as they lost 17-5.

The Fellas struck first, however, by scoring 2 runs on a monster 2 run shot from Bill Pulver. In the 4th, Phil Sidoti led the inning off with a triple and came on to score via Dan Ciampino's SAC FLY. In the 5th, Pulver reached with a base hit and an injured Ryan Williams hit a monster 2 run shot for the 5th run. However, it just wasnt enough as lackluster defense/offense and pitching led to the Fellas demise.

"We just came out flat tonight, there's not much to say other than they were the better team tonight." added Coach Phil. "We had a great season and enjoyed ourselves, we will be ready next year.'

HUGE Win: Fellas Survive, Advance to Semi-Finals

8.27.15- With last year’s playoff elimination still fresh in many of the Fellas minds, The Fellas knew a win in this game would set up a rematch of last year’s semi –final game vs. DWM. However, before they could think about that game they had to finish the job vs. Sportsman’s Bowl in the opening round. With a tremendous pitching performance, outstanding defense and late offense the Fellas survived a first round scare and are on their way to the semi-finals after a 4-2 victory.

This was a pitcher’s duel right from the start with the game remaining scoreless through 4 innings. In fact, Bill Pulver was pitching a no hitter through the first 4. However, in the 5th Sportsman’s was able to break through and score 2 runs. The Fellas wouldn’t respond until the bottom of the 6th which kept their season alive. Mark LeMorta provided the spark to get things going with a lead-off triple. He also injured himself during this at bat but after rubbing his junk for a minute he was able to get back in the box. It appears umpire, Vinny Marini, may have also rubbed it to ease the pain. Bill Pulver then came up and hit a big RBI single to cut the deficit in half. Tom Conlin then added an RBI single and Joe Amiccuci hit a SAC Fly. Jeff Brown then hit an RBI single to put the Fellas up 4-2 which would end up being the final score.

This was a defensive showcase, especially from Jeff Brown at SS. Jeff made some unbelievable plays to keep the Fellas in the game and his resurgence at the plate couldn’t have come at a better time. Bill Pulver was tremendous, striking out 1 and pitching 7 innings of quality softball.

“We are right back where we were last year and this time we need to finish the job” added Coach Phil. “Games like this can really spark a team and as a whole we are ready to take on DWM.

High Note: Fellas Win Season Finale, Ready For Playoffs

8.19.15-In their final tune up before the postseason the Goodfellas looked to  build momentum against a team they hope to see again  shortly. Grand Premier, who has already beaten the Goodfellas twice came across a determined and clutch hitting Goodfellas team tonight as the Fellas captured the victory by a score of 12-6.

The Fellas would strike first with an RBI single from Bill Pulver but would find themselves trailing 3-1 after the first. In the was the 3rd and 4th innings where the Fellas stepped on the gas scoring a combined 10 runs to pull away in this one. Phil Sidoti reached on a single and would come on to score via Bill Pulver’s RBI single. Tom Conlin would then add an RBI double followed by back to back singles from Brian Hoffman  and Andrew Dorr.

In the 4th, Jeff Brown and Dan Ciampino started with back to back singles and Brown would come around to score on an RBI single from Brendan Clemens. Phil Sidoti then added an RBI single of his own followed by a base hit from Ryan Williams. 2 runs would come on to score via a fielder’s choice play involving Bill Pulver and Tom Conlin would add another single. Andrew Dorr then hit an RBI single followed by a 2 run single from newlywed Joe Amiccuci. The fellas 12th and final run came in the 6th by an RBI fielder’s choice from Brian Hoffman.

Defensively the fellas played solid, with notable defensive plays made by Jeff Brown and Brian Hoffman. Pitching wise, Bill Pulver pitched much better and had a solid outing. Although his walk total was still high he added 3ks and looked much more comfortable on the mound. With clutch hitting, good pitching and great defense this was a great sign for the Fellas who may just be getting hot at the right time.

B-Squad, A-Effort: Fellas Lose Tough One

8.7.15 - Goodfellas management knew this was going to be a tough game with 6 starters missing in action. Joe Amiccuci was getting ready to tie the knot, Dan Ciampino was missing to attend the rehearsal dinner, Ryan Williams was attending a wedding, Brendan Clemens was spending the weekend in Beantown, Bill Pulver was at Wendy’s and Jeff Brown was at a golf outing with Kernel Sanders.  Missing half your starters is never a good thing but Eugene Corcione, Eric Birdsall, Chris Smith and Scott Matheson were kind enough to give up their Friday night to help the Fellas out in the pinch.  However, as a whole, the glaring omissions where just too much for the Fellas to handle as they drop this stunner 17-11.

The Fellas got on the board quickly and scored 4 runs in the first. Phil Sidoti and Mark LeMorta both reached base and Sidoti would score on Andrew Dorr’s base hit. However, due to Tom Conlin’s poor communication with Coach Phil trying to score, Conlin told Coach Phil to slide as if it was going to be a close play. There was no play and Coach was safe easily, but tore up his right butt cheek pretty good. “Tom’s got to be better in that situation” said Coach Phil. “We can’t have guys getting hurt and now I have huge welt, almost like a having a 3rd ass cheek”.

Tom Conlin, somewhat apologetic, said “my bad” and then proceeded to hit a 2 run triple to give the Fella’s their 4th run.  In the bottom of the inning, Stooges struck back by scoring 3 runs, 2 of which were unearned due to defensive miscues. The Fellas offense went quiet and Stooges had a big inning in the 3rd due to defensive miscues; scoring 6 runs. In the 4th, with the Fellas offense struggling Eric Birdsall was making his way to the plate. As he approached home, Bill Pulver pulled into the parking lot and Coach Phil made the call to have him pitch hit for Birdsall. Pulver was literally walking to the field with a Wendy’s Baconator dripping from his mouth still. He tossed the wrapper over his shoulder walked right to the batters box and on the first pitch hit a monster solo shot to left center to give the Fellas a jolt. “It was one of the most badass things I’ve ever seen” said Andrew Dorr. “That has to be up there for Moment of the Year” said Mark LeMorta.

Stooges, however responded with 3 more runs but the Fellas came right back with 5 runs make it a 13-11 game. The additional offense came from back to back singles from Brian Hoffman and Mark LeMorta and Dorr and Conlin would reach on back to back fielder’s choice. Mike Corcione, Scott Matheson and Eugene Corcione would then each contribute singles. Hoffman, LeMorta and Dorr would provide another “singles trifecta” followed by Conlin’s double and another base hit from Mike Corcione.

In the bottom of the 6th, however, Stooges pulled away by scoring 4 more runs and the Fellas were chasing 6 runs going into the 7th and came up short. It’s a tough loss but one that Fellas have to shrug off as they have one more game to tune up for the playoffs. At that point anything can happen. The Fellas appreciate the effort from their substitutes.

That's More Like It: Fellas Explode for 21 in Big Victory

7.30.15 - With the Goodfellas reeling after 3 tough losses in a row they looked to get back on track and re- invigorate the Goodfellas offense; boy did they ever. The Goodfellas scored a whopping 23 runs on big hits and a power surge from the Irishmen Tom Conlin, leading to a 21-13 victory.

It didn’t look so promising from the beginning, however, as the first three Goodfella batters were retired in order. In the second things got started with a 2 out triple from Andrew Dorr, who would come on to score via Joe Amiccuci’s RBI double. Billy Pulver then added an RBI double of his own and Tom Conlin’s RBI double made the score 3-1 in favor of the Fellas. However,  Pulver struggled again in this contest and had trouble finding the strike zone in the top of second, allowing Sportsman to take a 4-3 lead. Phil Sidoti would come in to relive Pulver in the second inning to keep Sportsmans at bay until later innings.

Now back to the offense. In the 4th, the Fellas scored 11 runs to essentially stamp this one a victory in the books. Ryan Williams started off the offensive clinic with a solo home run followed by three consective singles from Dorr, Amiccuci and Pulver. Tom Conlin (POG) then hit a clutch 3 run double and would come on to score via Jeff Brown’s RBI double. Ciampino would then add a double to score Brown and four more singles would ensue from Clemens, Sidoti , LeMorta and Williams.

In the 5th, Conlin started it off with a triple and would score on Jeff Brown’s SAC FLY. Ciampino then hit a double followed by back to back RBI singles from Clemens and Sidoti.  In the 6th, Ryan Williams (The Renissance Man) would lead off with a triple followed by an RBI single from Brian Hoffman. Bill Pulver then added a 2 run single followed by another RBI double from Tom Conlin.

Defensively the Goodfellas played well but ran into a little bit of trouble in later innings when the team decided to have some fun and switch positions around. We had a slight scare in the 6th as Brendan Clemens would collide with Brian Hoffman in the outfield. Both appear to be OK but Clemens had his bell wrong and is listed as day to day. He must be one tough sum bitch.

In other news, it appears there just can’t be a game this year without a little bit of controversy. While Amiccuci was batting it appeared Pulver was giving him tips on how to fix his swing which made Amiccuci almost Chris Beniot like. Pulver insists he wasn’t giving him tips but alerting him about how great the new Wendy’s Baconator is. “I only see Joe once a week and sometimes it’s when we are batting near each other, I wanted to make sure he was aware of how awesome the Baconator is.”

Things got so heated the umpire had to cool off Amiccuci who appeared ready to put Pulver in the crippler cross face. Things only intensified when Amiccuci was running the bases and was confused and started running back towards second base on a ball that was not caught. Pulver, running like a freight train started screaming “MOVE YOU ASS” and almost ran over Amiccuci. Things appear to have settled down and there are no hard feelings. However, reports have surfaced that Jeff Brown is pretty pissed off that there was no Baconator brought to the game.

50/50: Fellas Drop To .500 With Back To Back Losses

7.21.15- After last night's disappointing loss, the Fellas had 24 hours to group and try and back on track. The opponent was the same and the Fellas were hoping for a different outcome. Bill Pulver would take the mound for the first time in a month and he pitched great. However, as we have seen from the pitching staff as of late Pulver ran out of gas late and when you combine that with an offense that has suddenly struggled closing out games becomes difficult. The Fellas offense exploded in the second inning scoring 7 runs and it looked like they were well on their way. However, the offensive plug was pulled the Fellas would be relatively quiet until the 7th.

In the second, Pulver got the offense going with a base hit followed by a booming double from the hobbled Tom Conlin. Jeff Brown then hit an RBI single followed by a base hit from Dan Ciampino. Mike Cocione then added an RBI single of his own followed by a clutch 2 run double from Brian Hoffman. Brendan Clemens would match Hoffman with a hustle double, driving in 2 more runs. Mark LeMorta would then conclude the scoring with an RBI single. In the 5th, the Fellas added another run with an RBI single from Conlin.

Louisville Chuggers slowly started to creep back made the largest dent in the 5th were they took the lead. Some poorly executed defensive plays and big hits from Louisville Chuggers fueled their comeback. With the score being 10-9 going into the 7th, Pulver struggled walking 5 batters and allowing Louisville Chuggers to go up by 4 runs. The Fellas made it interesting in the bottom of the 7th with Coach Phil starting the inning off with a base hit followed by a base hit from Mark LeMorta. Joe Amiccuci hit a SAC FLY followed by a 2 run home run from Bill Pulver. The Fellas were one run away from tying it up but Conlin would ground out to conclude the game and end the comeback.

With this loss, the Fellas tumble to 4th place and with only 3 games left will need to win out and need help from other clubs to move back to 3rd place. If the season ended today, the Fellas would be slotted as the 4th seed in the playoffs.

"This was a tough loss but as we saw last year in the post season anything can happen, a 6-10 team won the title last year" added Jeff Brown.  "I must say I played pretty good defense tonight, I was a little concerned about the aroma coming from Hot Dog Charlie’s up the street and it potentially distracting me but I was able to keep my focus."

Chugged: Fellas On The Ropes After Rough Performance

7.20.15- On a night when the Fellas celebrated the legacy of hall of famer Kevin Clemens and gave Brian Hoffman a birthday surprise, it seemed there was no way the Fellas were going to come out flat. However, this game was almost a carbon copy of last game where the pitching was solid up to a point, the offense went cold and the defense was spotty. History was also made in this game with the Goodfellas witnessing their first ejection in franchise history.

Conlin pitched well and argulaby had his best outing of his career. He only allowed 4 runs through 4 innings but ran out of gas in the 5th and 6th, allowing 5 and 4 runs respectively. In the 7th, he gave up 7 more runs and Sidoti came in and gave up three. Offensively, the game started with the first two Goodfellas hitters (Clemens, Sidoti) getting base hits followed by an RBI single from Mark LeMorta. Williams and Hoffman would also back to back RBI singles. In the third, LeMorta hit a solo shot home run followed by 4 singles in a row from Amiccuci, Williams, Hoffman, and Pulver.  In the 4th, Clemens hit a double and would come on to score via Mark LeMorta’s 2 run shot. The Fellas scoring would conclude in the 5th with a solo home run from Dan Ciampino, which tied the game at the time.

In the 6th inning, the controversy began. Earlier in the game Dan Ciampino was warned for throwing his bat after popping out, a mistake he acknowledges and takes full responsibility for. However, in the 6th there was a play at plate in which Ciampino “bumped” into the umpire trying to get the ball. The umpire felt Ciampino’s aggression was intentional and since he was warned earlier, he was ejected. “I didn’t see the play but knowing Danny, I highly doubt there was intent there” said Coach Phil. “If he didn’t get warned earlier I don’t think there would have been any ejection."

A disappointed Dan Ciampino had this to add: “In my entire sports career I have never had something like this happen. Was I wrong for throwing the bat? Yes. But I think the umpire overreacted with the bump. I am a respectful player and my actions are always geared towards myself and being upset at myself for not getting the job done. It’s never directed towards the other team, other players or the umpire. Luckily, we play again in 24 hours so I can put this behind me”.

The Fellas are on the ropes. A loss Tuesday night would mean they would drop to 4th place and with only 4 games left, they need to hang on to secure the 3 seed.

Not So “Good” Fellas: Anemic Offense Leads to Disappointing Loss

7.14.15- The last time the Fellas played DWM everything went right. The defense and pitching was solid and the offense got big hits in critical spots to secure the upset. In this contest, the defense was suspect at times pitching was great up until the 6th and the offense struggled all night.

Things looked good early on with the Fellas scoring 3 runs in the first. Clemens and Hoffman started the game with singles and Mark LeMorta hit a 3 run home run to put the Fellas up 3-2. Coach Phil gave 3 in the 2nd but then put up 0’s in the 3rd, 4th and 5th. The problem was the Fellas offense wouldn’t pick up another hit until the 5th inning. It was a 5-4 game going into the 6th inning and DWM’s offense started to pick things up, scoring 5 runs in the 6th and 7 in the 7th.

Although the final score was 17-5, it was not a true indication of how the game went. “We were in it until the end but I just couldn’t finish them off” said Coach Phil. “Both times I pitched against them we kept it close for a while so hopefully next time we are on the better end; I just ran out of gas.”

The Fellas offense was a season low 9/30 with only 2 Fellas having more than 1 hit. With this loss the Fellas hopes of securing a #1 seed in the playoffs is fading but as we all know that may not matter. “Anyone can beat anyone on any given day, 1 seed, 6 seed it’s not going to matter. Whoever shows up and DOES WORK is going to win it” added Mark LeMorta.

The fellas look to rebound on Monday July 20th as they take on Louisville Chuggers.

In The Nick Of Time: Defense Steps Up Big In Victory

7.2.15 - With The Goodfellas on pace to smash almost all offensive records in franchise history this year, one would expect the hot hitting to continue and be the main factor in each game. Tonight, however, help from an old friend and tremendous defense was the story here as the offense was only 12/31 (.387) in a season the fellas are batting over .500 as a team.

To start the game, The Fellas only scored one run and Stooges struck back with 3. In the second, The Fellas put up 2 to tie the game fueled by a 2 run shot from Nicky “Brews” LaMalfa. Coach Phil gave it right back though in the bottom of the inning, giving up a 3 run home run to put Stooges back up. That would be the last time Stooges would score, however, as Coach Phil settled down and threw zero’s on the board primarily because the defense had one of their best games in recent memory.

The Goodfellas added a run in the third but started to pull away in the 4th with another 2 run home run from Nicky “Brews” LaMalfa and a SAC Fly from Dan Ciampino. In the 5th, Mark LeMorta hit a ball that still hasn’t landed for a solo shot (his 89 career home run). Ryan Williams, early front runner for Comeback Player of the Year and potentially Offensive Player of The Year would follow suit in the following inning with a bomb to left center to put the Fellas up 9-6.

In the 7th, the exclamation point was added with 4 more runs. Scotty Matheson and Brendan Clemens started the inning off with back to back singles and Phil Sidoti drove them in with a 2 run double. Joe Amiccuci then added a single followed by a big 2 run double from the “Irishman” Tom Conlin.

Defensively, some of the best plays you will see on a softball field were made tonight with the star of the show being Nick LaMalfa at third base. He made some huge plays in critical spots. Other defensive standouts included Brendan Clemens with shades of Mike Trout out in right center and Tommy Conlin over at first base flashing the leather. Ryan Williams and Mark LeMorta also made big plays in the outfield and as unit, make a strong argument for best outfield in the league.

In a game that Hoffman (first half MVP), Corcione and Pulver were missing, the sub combo (no Jeff not that sub combo you hungry sum bitch) of LaMalfa and Matheson was much appreciated and paid dividends for the squad.  Took us forever to get Nick on the field but it happened just in time. The next two games, arguably the two biggest of the season are against the Fellas top two foes.  Do the Fellas have it in them for back to back upsets?

Time’s Up! – Fella’s Win Slobberknocker in Historic Fashion

6.27.15 - After their huge win 2 weeks ago against DWM and a slight delay in action due to rain, the Fellas took the field against Sportsman’s Bowl in hopes of continuing their momentum.  They did exactly that by scoring a franchise record 28 runs in one of the most bizarre games in recent memory.

The Fellas got off to a fast start by scoring 8 runs in the first and it looked like this one was going to end early. At one point the Fellas were up 16-4 and just needed to get the 5th to complete the mercy rule victory. However, a pounding of Coach Phil’s pitching late combined with some defensive mis-cues turned into a 17-14 game in the 4th. Back and forth this one went until the top of the 6th when the game was called due to reaching the time limit; the first time this has happened in the history of the franchise

Brendan Clemens and Phil Sidoti started the game off with back to back singles followed by a laser 2 run double from Joe Amiccuci. Andrew Dorr then followed with a triple followed by back to back singles from Hoffman and Conlin. Sidoti would conclude the scoring in the first with an RBI single.

The hit parade would continue, with the Goodfellas compiling a whopping (not a whopper Jeff) 27 hits. Offensive standouts included player of the game,Tom Conlin who was 4/5 with 2 home runs and 7 RBI, Joe Amiccuci who hit for the cycle and was also 4/5 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Bill Pulver continued his hot hitting going 4/5 with 3 RBI and Ryan Williams had a home run, triple and 5 RBIs.

Defensively the Fellas played solid and the comeback from Sportsman’s was more of a pounding of the pitching then the “lineup shift” in the 4th inning. Bill Pulver only went 2/3 of inning in this contest and Coach Phil came in. Coach cruised through 2 innings but hit a wall in the 4th. Bill Pulver looked good the first few batters, but quickly lost his control and started walking guys. Billy is still the ace of the staff and will be out there again vs. the Stooges for the entire game, regardless of what happens.

Upset FuPhiled: Fellas Stun First Place DWM With Huge Win

6.11.15 - The last 2 games were going to be a real test for the Fellas, and after last weeks near upset they knew they had a chance to beat the undefeated and first place DWM. The game started off with DWM scoring 3 runs but the Fellas struck back in the 2nd by scoring 4. Andrew Dorr led off with a double and came on to score via Brian Hoffman’s monster 2 run shot. The hot hitting Bill Pulver added a base hit followed by one of the farthest home runs hit of the season;  a 2 run shot from Ryan Williams.

The Fellas then added another in the 3rd via Mark LeMorta’s monster solo shot to right. Phil Sidoti kept DWM at bay and in the 5th, the fellas added 5 more runs to start and pull away. Bill Pulver started off with a triple followed by an RBI single from Ryan Williams. Dan Ciampino then hit a laser RBI double followed by a base hit from Brendan Clemens. Phil Sidoti and Mark LeMorta then followed with back to back RBI singles. Andrew Dorr would conclude the scoring with a timely sac fly.

In the 6th, The Fellas added 2 more runs with Tom Conlin setting the table with  a lead off triple. Bill Pulver then hit an RBI single followed by back to back singles from Ryan Williams and Dan Ciampino. Brendan Clemens then hit a SAC fly for the Fellas 12th run.

In the 7th, the Fellas defense shut down DWM to secure the upset and obtain the biggest win of the season.  Defense was the story all game with great plays made all around. Defensive standouts included Jeff Brown, Mark LeMorta, and Brendan Clemens. Brendan Clemens made arguably the play of the year by throwing out a runner at third in a critical part of the game.

On the hill, Phil Sidoti pitched one of the best games he’s pitched and kept DWM off balance all night. “I had a few more walks then I would have liked to, but our defense really stepped up and I was fortunate enough to make some quality pitches” said Phil Sidoti . “Witte 1, LeMorta 1- tied that shit up” said Mark LeMorta. “Next time they go after my wife, I will personally whoop each of their asses”.

LeMorta is referring to a play early on where a DWM player hit a foul ball and struck Mark’s wife and sister in law in the back and head. It was clearly an accident, but that didn’t stop Mark from issuing the warning and preparing to go to battle.

There was extra effort from every angle tonight, even Bill Pulver’s hustle led to an infield single leaving many of the fans shocked. “In those situations, I envision a Whopper just chilling on the base. I tell myself  that’s my Whopper,  that’s my happy place. It gives me that extra step to beat out bang bang plays” said Pulver.

“Did someone say Whopper?” added Jeff Brown. “Don’t hold out of me Fellas”. Jeff is under scrutiny for forgetting to bring beer tonight but his performance and the fact that he had his tooth pulled this morning and still played was enough for us to forgive him.

The Fellas look to keep the momentum going after this huge win on Monday at 9PM.

Grand Effort: Fellas Battle But Come Up Short After Early Lead

6.5.15 - After leading 7-1 in the first the Fellas looked as if they were going to pull the biggest upset of the season thus far. However, Grand Premier came storming back to hang on for a 20-16 victory.

In the first, Phil Sidoti started with an “excuse me” base hit followed by a single from Mark LeMorta. Joe Amiccuci then followed a clutch 3 run homer to put the Fellas up 3-1. Hoffman then walked followed by an RBI single from Jeff Brown. Ryan Williams then hit a laser RBI triple followed by an RBI single from Bill Pulver. Mike Corcione concluded the scoring in the first with an RBI single of his own.

In the second Grand Premier scored 2 more to bring it closer, making it 7-3. Up to this point, Bill Pulver was pitching great, arguably the best he pitched all season. However, in the third, Bill had trouble finding the strike zone and Grand Premier came back to take an 8-7 lead. Phil Sidoti came in to relieve Pulver and held his own, but the punch in the mouth from Grand Premier was too much for the Fellas defense to handle, although there were some nice plays made.

The Fellas entered the bottom of the 7th down 20-10 and there were quickly two outs. However, there appeared to be some 2-out magic brewing with Brown hitting an RBI single to score LeMorta who reached on a single. Williams then hit a single followed by Pulver’s 2 run single. Dan Ciampino then hit a 2 run double followed by a vintage base hit to right field from Mike Corcione. Brendan Clemens then came to the plate and hit an RBI single to make it a 20-16 game. With two on and Sidoti at the plate, the Fellas had a chance if Sidoti could get it on to set the table for LeMorta and Amiccuci. Unfortunately, Sidoti didn’t get the job done and the game ended with a final score of 20-16.

“That was a tough way to lose” said Coach Phil. “We shouldn’t have been in that situation to begin with, but we were and I couldn’t keep the rally going.” “One thing we proved tonight is that we can beat these guys” added Dan Ciampino. “We may have lost the first 2 battles, but we all know it’s the war we are after.”

Things to get easier for the Fellas as they take on DWM next week, the first place team. Mark LeMorta seems confident the Fellas can upset the undefeated DWM squad. “They are good team there’s no question about it, but we are always going to be in it.”

Three Stooges: Fellas Capture Third Win of Season – Climb Over .500

5.28.15 - The past 2 weeks have been a complete turn around for a franchise that got out of the gate in rough shape. In the last three games, the Fellsa have scored an astounding 63 runs and have played much better defense. After last week’s textbook offensive showing, the Fellas came out against Stooges and quickly showed everyone they had their swagger back.

The Fellas had a quiet first inning and did not score and in the second they only scored 1 off a SAC FLY from Jeff Brown. The third inning is where they turned up the volume; scoring 7 runs. Dan Ciampino started off the inning with a solo home run followed by a base hit from Mike Corcione. Brendan Clemens would followed with a base hit and Phil Sidoti would reach with a rare hit by pitch (#chargethemound). That set the stage for Mr. LeMorta, who hit a moon shot grand slam to right center field to bring the boys home. Not to be outdone, Joe Amiccuci followed with a moon shot of his own to complete the back to back HR trot. Brian Hoffman then followed with a patient at bat drawing a walk followed by a base hit from the “Irishman” Tom Conlin.

In the 5th, Conlin started the inning with a walk followed by a 2 run home run from Jeff Brown. Jeff was one happy sum bitch and media outlets have reported that Jeff pulled a slim jim out of his pocket as he ran the bases and took a bite to celebrate.  In the 6th,  Brendan Clemens reached with a double and would come on to score by Phil Sidoti’s RBI double. Amiccuci followed with a walk and would come onto score from Andrew Dorr’s RBI double. It should be noted that Dorr is also facing a fine for swinging 3-0 and the BOD is assessing all options. Tom Conlin would join the party again by adding a 2 run single, adding to his already impressive 2015 resume.

In the 7th, Bill Pulver got things started with a single followed by a walk from Dan Ciampino. Clemens would also draw a walk followed by a SAC FLY from Phil Sidoti. Mark LeMorta added an RBI single and “Joey Softball” came up and hit his second home run of the game (a 3 run shot) solidifying his POG victory. Things got interesting in the 7th  as the Stooges started hitting Pulver all over the place but the Fellas hung on and got the victory.

Defensively, the Fellas played well and have improved each game. Defensive standouts included Jeff Brown and Brian Hoffman who made great plays all night. Tom Conlin went to second base towards the end of the game and impressed in his short time there, diving and showing tremendous effort. Pitching wise, this may have been Bill Pulver’s best outing but he realizes he still needs to keep his walk totals down. Bill hung in there and also received instruction from his brother John during the game. At one point, you could see them arguing about something but it is still unconfirmed what it was over. Fans close by claim they were arguing about where to go after the game for a snack.

The Fellas have now played each team in their division once and it’s clear that the next two games will be a true test as they take on Grand Premier and DWM. In other news, the search for Ryan Williams continues. Any information regarding his whereabouts should be reported ASAP.

On A Roll: Fellas Put On Offensive Clinic to Rebound to .500

5.21.15 - After one of the most abysmal starts in franchise history, the Goodfellas have had back to back games where they scored over 20 runs and had over 5 home runs as a team. The Fella’s got off to a slow start in the first inning by not scoring any runs but thereafter it was an offensive fire storm in which they defeated Sportsman’s Bowl 24-10.

The offensive attack got started in the second by a leadoff single from Andrew door followed by three singles in a row from Hoffman, Conlin and Brown. Bill Pulver (He’s The Burger King!) came up with the bases loaded and hit a monster grand slam to help his own cause. Dan Ciampino then followed with a solo home run, picking up his first hit in over 12 months. In the third, Conlin started the inning off with a single followed by a walk from Jeff Brown. Bill Pulver then hit a 2 run double followed by back to back walks from Clemens and Sidoti. With the bases load reigning triple crown winner, Mark LeMorta, hit a moon shot grand slam for the fellas 14th run.

Amiccuci then followed with a double and Hoffman drove him in with a double of his own. Jeff Brown would then go on to hit a double to bring in Hoffman.  In the 5th, Dorr started off with a walk and Brian Hoffman hit a 2 run home run ( his 3rd of the year) to add to his already impressive start. Brown, Pulver, Ciampino, Dorr, Hoffman and Conlin would then conclude the offensive clinic by all contributing singles.

Defensively, the Fellas played solid with great plays made all around. Reigning defensive player of the year, Jeff Brown, made great plays at shortstop and Brian Hoffman manned the hot corner nicely in the mysterious absence of Ryan Williams. Pitching wise, Bill Pulver, struggled but pitched well enough to keep the fellas in the game. Walks were an issue again but Bill settled down and trusted his defense to bail him out. With the big lead, Coach Phil came in the 5th inning to pick up his first save of the year. Since there was such a big lead, the Fellas decided to do a defensive scramble and allow anyone to play any position. We quickly learned why Mark LeMorta is not an infielder.

During the game there was an awkward defensive attempt by Jeff Brown and it appeared he forgot where he was for a second. With the ball hit up the middle, Jeff grabbed it with his glove and shoveled it backwards in attempt to get the runner out at second. “To be honest, I forgot where I was for a second. In my mind I knew I was at the game, but all I could visualize was me picking up a French fry off the floor at McDonalds, 5 second rule son.”

The Fellas also held their breath in the 5th inning when Andrew Dorr went down with an apparent elbow injury. “ It was scary” said Dorr “My elbow hasn’t hurt this bad since I tried giving Shamu an “Abe Lincoln” at Sea World.  “It was definitely a tense moment” said Mark LeMorta, “but we are glad he’s ok."

The Fellas look to continue their hot hitting on Thursday 5/28 vs Stooges.

Plug & Chug: Offensive Spark Propels Fellas to First Win of 2015

5.11.15- After 2 disappointing games to start the season, the Fellas knew they were better than that and it was only a matter of time until the sleeping giant was awakened. Awakened may be an understatement as the Fellas put on an offensive clinic with 6 home runs and routed Louisville Chuggers 21-3.

Leadoff hitter Brendan Clemens got things started with a lead off triple followed by a rare 2 run home run from Phil Sidoti. Mark LeMorta followed with a screaming double and Joe Amiccuci hit a monster 2 run home run to put the Fellas up 4-2. In the second, the Fellas poured it on by scoring 9 more runs led by singles from Bill Pulver, Mike Corcione and Brendan Clemens. Phil Sidoti hit a SAC fly to drive in the 5th run and Mark LeMorta (reigning triple crown winner) hit a monster 3 run home run to put the Fellas up 8-2. Amiccuci followed with a booming double followed by a collasal 2 run shot from Andrew Dorr. The Irishman, Tom Conlin, added a single and would score on Brian Hoffman’s 2 run home run (note: his GF was not in attendance and he hit a HR).

In the 4th, Amiccuci and Conlin reached on base hits and would score on Brian Hoffman’s 2 run double. Ryan Williams (who was extra early this week) hit an RBI single followed by an RBI double from Brendan Clemens. Phil Sidoti came up with 2 on and hit his second home run of the game to put the Fellas up 21-3. The Fellas gave up a run in the 5th but Chugger’s were simply outmatched by a much more polished Goodfellas team.

Defensively the Fellas played much better with virtually no errors and great plays made all around. Routine plays were made and nice grabs were made from Mike Corcione in right field. Pitching wise, Bill Pulver looked much more comfortable although his walk total was still higher then he would like. “Naturally my goal every game is not to walk anyone but it happens, I felt much better tonight.” The Goodfellas would like to congratulate Billy and his finance Jamie on the engagement.

“Billy pitched much better and we played better all-around as a team” added Mark LeMorta. “We knew we had to do work and that’s what we did.” When Mike Corcione was asked about his nice grab in right tonight he added “I got a good jump, I caught it – I felt good” The Fellas would also like to congratulate Mike on completing his Master’s degree this past week from SUNY Albany. “Off the field production is just as important as on the field production” added Brendan Clemens. We are happy for Mike on his big accomplishment and for a great game tonight.”

In other news, the Fellas were almost down Brian Hoffman tonight as the news of Tom Brady’s suspension left him extremely upset. He was seen during pre-game punching the dugout fence and wiping away tears. Andrew Dorr went over to console him but Hoffman threatened to quote “deflate his balls.” Dorr, oddly enough seemed excited by Hoffman’s proposition but walked away without incident.

The Goodfellas play again on May 21st and hope to keep this momentum going.

Strugglin: Fellas Come Out Flat For Second Straight Game

5.7.15 - After a disappointing home opener the Fellas were looking to get back on track aganist one of their biggest rivals, DWM (Golden Cue). However the Fellas, although not as bad as last time, came out flat and lost a tough one 15-3. The Fellas offense was anemic although Brian Hoffman provided a bright spot in the 5th with a 2 run home run. Amiccuci also ripped a double and came in to score on Dorr's rbi double which would be about all the offense we would see on this night.

Defensively the Fellas played marginally better but Bill Pulver struggled in his debut giving up 9 walks. "Billy was a little rusty but he gave it everything he had and that's all I can ask for" said Coach Phil. "He will only get better, it was a tough way to make your debut but he's been working hard and he will figure it out." Luckily for the Fellas, they have a short turn around so they can move forward.

"We can't worry about last game or what happened tonight, all we can do is get ready for Monday and we will be ready" said Mark LeMorta. "We have to and will break out of this funk." Other Fellas were still perplexed on what has transpired so far in the 2015 campaign. Joe Amiccuci added: "There's no fantasy football, so the guys are foucsed ya know? I didn't see one cell phone or one NFL Mock draft so I know the guys were into the game. We gotta figure this out braahhhhhhh."

To add insult to injury, Ryan Williams had to be removed from the lineup due to his inability to know what time the game was. "I thought the game was at 7:30, my bad" added Willliams. "It's fustrating" added Coach Phil Sidoti. "We are probably the only softball team with a website, facebook page, mobile app and printed schedule so he's got at least 4 cracks at getting the time right. I even texted him twice this week to remind him. It's inexcusable and the BOD will certainly determine the appropriate fine."

The Fellas look to win their first game of the year and reverse their fortunates as they take on Louisville Chuggers.

Not So Grand: Fellas Drop Opener After Rusty Showing

5.1.15 - After all the hype and excitement going into this game one would think the Fellas would wrap things up early in the home opener. There were certainly shades of positive things to come but poor defensive plays and ill timed offense led to the Fellas demise as they were routed by a score of 20-7.

Grand Premier put up 4 runs to start off the game and the Fellas answered back with 3 runs. After that however, it was all Grand Premier. Offensive standouts for the fellas included Mark LeMorta who picked up right where he left from last season, going 2/3 with a triple and a double. Joe Amiccuci also continued his hot hitting going a perfect 3/3 with 2 doubles, a single and 2 RBIS.

Tom Conlin brought the power with a 2 run homer and an RBI single and Jeff Brown seemed to get his swing back with a single, double and run scored.

In addition, one major positive development was how well Ryan Williams swung the bat. After coming off an injury plagued season, the former Offensive Player of the Year went 2/2 with a triple and a base hit.

Defensively, however, the Fellas looked flat, bobbling routine plays, missing cut offs and just overall sloppy play. There were certainly spectacular plays made but the amount of errors vastly overshadowed the highlights. Conlin did his best on the mound and the team appreciated him stepping up with Pulver out.

“We just came out flat tonight” said coach Phil. “I’d rather get it out of our system now, there’s plenty of softball left. We can’t let one game define us. It’s a funny game, next week we could win 20-7, it’s just the way it goes”.

Mark LeMorta was also very optimistic. “We will improve there’s no question about it. We had a lot of hype going into the game and the hype is still there. We will bounce back.”

To add insult to injury, the Fellas may also face a league fine due to the damage caused by catcher Dan Ciampino. In the 5th, Ciampino was irate after grounding out and the poor scoreboard had no chance. Ciampino punched the scoreboard operating panel and quickly the lights went out. There has been no comment from the league yet but a fine is certain to follow. “I was pretty pissed off, and I don’t hide my emotions, what you see is what I feel” said Ciampino. “I have a little Paul O’Neill in me, what can I say.”

The Fellas have no time to ponder this loss as they must prepare to take on their #1 rival next week, DWM. The resurrection didn’t happen in week 1, but here’s to hoping week 2 is better.
