Dethroned: Fellas Suffer Heartbreaking Loss

In one of the most anticipated games in franchise history, the Fellas were one win away from going to their second consecutive championship game. Coming off their most productive regular season in team history the Fellas looked primed and ready to go. However, on this night the offense went silent, defensive mishaps and pitching led to their demise. Tensions ran high all game and the Fellas couldn’t recover and never led in this game. The Fellas were down 6-1 early and got it back to 6-5 in the 4th. However, the Fellas werent able to keep the momentum going and Golden Cue capitalized on defensive errors and walks.

After the game, many players were stunned by what just happened and couldn’t believe the season was over. However, everyone knew the bottom line was that this was the most fun any of us had in softball season since we began back in 2006. One bad game in the playoffs could simply not define everything that we accomplished in 2014. Although a disappointing loss, the season has a whole was a success the brother hood lives on. “Sure we are disappointed, said Coach Phil. “We didn’t deserve to win tonight but to say the season was a failure would be unfair.” “This team is all about a brotherhood; establishing a bond between friends that a loss cannot break. Goodfellas softball is about keeping a close group of friends together and enjoying the ride, in that regard we are champions”.

Houdini: Fellas Escape Close Call With Clutch Defense & Pitching

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Pitching, defense and timely hitting propel fellas to 11th victory

After nearly a month off the Fellas were anxious to get on the field and back to work. With Clemens off the DL and  a heatlthier Conlin and  Hoffman, the fellas looked to tune up prior to the post season. Phil Sidoti took the mound in John Pulver’s absence and kept the Fellas in the game backed by great defense.

The Fellas struck first with 2 runs in the first inning fueled by an RBI single from LeMorta and sac fly from Amicccui. Golden Cue scored on in the first and wouldn’t score again until the 4th inning. In the 3rd LeMorta added another RBI single to put the Fellas up 3-1. Golden Cue answered with 2 more runs in the 4th and Fellas answered back in the 5th. Lemorta’s three run triple put the Fellas back in the drivers seat but Cue answered  back with 3 in the 5th. In the 6th,  the fellas added 3 more with a monster 2 run home run from Andrew Dorr (Dolphin Lover) and by an RBI single from Brendan Clemens.

Golden Cue threatened in the bottom of the 7th by scoring a run and had bases loaded with 1 hour. It appeared the Fellas were going to be in trouble but Sidoti got a ground ball to short and Brown, Amiccuci and Conlin were able to turn a clutch double play to end the game. The fellas improve to 11-3 on the season with this victory against Golden Cue by a final score of 9-7.

Jeff Brown played great at shortstop but there was some concern during pre game about his ability to focus. Jeff smelled the fresh bread being baked next door and he couldn’t help to take whiff. “It just smelled so good if I had some butter I would have definitely made some toast”.

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: AAA prospects step up, clutch hitting and overall team effort leads Fellas to victory

After a 1 month layoff due to bad weather and the nature of the schedule, The Goodfellas looked to get back and track and DO WORK. The dog days of summer have caught up with the Fellas, with many players being banged up and playing through injuries. With Williams, Clemens, Corcione and the Pulvers out for this game, the Fellas turned to the farm system to fill the void. Nick LaMalfa and Scott Matheson made their debuts and Eugene Corcione returned (in soccer cleats) to help the Fellas take on Complete Lawn Care.

With John Pulver out, Coach Phil took the mound for his second start of the season and knew the defense would have to step up to keep this one close. However, the offense is what stole the show here and we saw flashes of “Old School” Goodfellas softball. Sidoti threw strikes but Complete Lawn Care hit him hard and went up early 4-0. The Fellas responded right back with 4 of their own with an RBi single from Mark LeMorta and a monster 3 run home run from Brian Hoffman. Hoffman was almost scratched from the game due to a sore hip but with his girlfriend in attendance, he took it to another level and fought through the pain. In the second, Complete Lawn Care put another 3 runs on the board and The Fellas matched them with 3 runs of their own. LeMorta hit a SAC fly and Tom “The Irishman” Conlin hit a 2 run double.

The entire game was like this, with the Goodfellas matching what the Complete Lawn Care was doing the entire time. In the 4th, it looked like the game was going to get away from the Fellas as Complete Lawn Care rocked Sidoti for 5 runs. But once again, the resilient Goodfellas put a 6 spot on the board fueled by a 2 run inside the park homerun from LeMorta and an RBI single from Jeffrey Brown (JEFFFFFFFFFFFS HUGE). Hoffman then added a 2 run double followed by an RBI single from LaMalfa and a RBI triple from Scott Matheson. With the Fellas up 18-17 this game was going to the 7th.

Complete Lawn Care scored 3 runs in the 7th to go up 20-18 and the only way the Fellas were going to end this game in their favor was via the walk off. LaMalfa started the 7th with a big triple and came onto score on Eugene Corcione’s RBI single. Dorr then reached with a walk and Sidoti tied the game with a SAC FLY. Joe Amiccuci came up to the plate with a chance to win it and he delivered with a monster 3 run home run to left field to give their Fellas their 3rd walk off win in franchise history and 2nd this season. Amiccuci was extremely happy with the outcome and media outlets are reporting he was going to take the rest of the week off from work to celebrate. He also made sure he updated his stats on his refrigerator and he was much deserving of the player of the game award. The Fellas escaped with a final score of 23-20.

Ryan Williams gets a special shout out for playing 1 inning to fill in for the late arriving Dorr. Although Williams is injured, he was able to hang in there for an inning to avoid the Fellas from being shorthanded and we appreciate his commitment to the franchise. We hope for a speedy recovery for Williams and The Fellas should be activating Brendan Clemens from the DL this week.

Also a special thanks to Nick LaMalfa, Scott Matheson and Eugene Corcione for filling in and having solid debuts. After the game, Mark LeMorta spoke with the media regarding his satisfaction with the subs. “They played great and we are happy with their progress but none of them brought beer. If they want to stay out of AAA they really should have brought beer.”

Boot Camp: Defensive Mishaps Lead to Missed Opportunity

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Lackluster defense and Camp Vinette's offense lead to Fella's demise.

With tough luck against B1 opponents this year, the Fellas knew the formula to winning against the #1 B1 team was going to be good defense and a quality start from Pulver. However, the Fellas were bit by the B1 bug again with a sub-par defensive performance and the B1 hitters hit Pulver hard.

For as lackluster as the defense was the Fellas hung in there offensively and still managed to score 11 runs. LeMorta and Amiccuci started the scoring with back to back RBI doubles in the first and the Fellas would add 3 more in the 3rd with a run single from the Irishman Tom Conlin and an RBI single Jeffrey Brown. In the 5th, Conlin's SAC Fly followed by Brown's RBI single added 2 more runs. John Pulver added an RBI single in the 6th and Billy Pulver added one in the 7th. However, their defensive mishaps were too much to overcome and the Fellas dropped this game 16-11. The bright spot, however, is that the Fellas hung in their against the top team in B1 and may have even won it if they played better defensively.

"We just didn't play good tonight in the field." said Jeff Brown. "I mean it's like getting to Taco Bell and finding out they discontinued the Dorito's Loco taco.... just disappointing."

Coach Phil added "we didnt deserve to win tonight and each of us takes responsbility for the loss". "Luckily we are done with B1 teams and can focus on teams in our division and getting back to the 'ship".  "Last year when we lost to a B1 rival late in the season, it lite a spark that no one was able to put out. I am looking for Deja Vu."

Phil In: Solid Defensive and Pitching Effort Drives Close Victory

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Tremdenous defense and quality pitching keep the Fellas in it long enough to capture victory

With last week’s walk off victory still fresh in everyone’s mind, the Fellas came into the game with tremendous momentum and excitement. The last time the Fellas faced Matchbox, they set a franchise record with 27 runs and put on an offense clinic. Tonight however was a different story, with the defense leading the way to victory in a relatively quiet offensive night with a final score of 7-6.

With both Pulver’s set to be late to the game, Phil Sidoti took the mound for his first start since April of 2013. His grandmother, Mafalda Corcione, said prayers all day for him to ensure he didn’t get hurt and not only did he avoid injury, but he pitched a quality game with tremendous help from the defense. Great plays were made all around and defensive standouts included, the Irishman Tom Conlin, Ryan Williams, Mark LeMorta, Jeff Brown and Brendan Clemens (who made an appearance at first base for the first time in his career.)

Offensively it looked like the Fellas were going to go up big early as Phil Sidoti started the game with a base hit and would come around to score on Joe Amiccuci’s 2 run homer. It appears that Joe is still carrying the momentum from his tryout with the Baltimore Orioles (he didn’t make the cut). In the second, Andrew Dorr hit a solo home run that was just fair down the left field line and Mike Corcione, Eugene Corcione and Brendan Clemens followed with three consecutive singles. Clemens single scored the 4th run followed by Phil Sidoti’s SAC FLY for the 5th. In the 5th, Clemens  and Sidoti started the inning off with back to back singles and Clemen's  pitch runner would come around to score on an RBI single from Amiccuci.

After 6, the Fellas were up by one and the Pulver’s arrived with one inning to play. It appears that Bill Pulver was not kidding when he said he wouldn’t skip the McFlurry at McDonalds to be on time to the game. John Pulver came into pitch the 7th inning and faced three batters and put them down in order to earn his first career save. “It was great to get my first career save, totally worth eating that extra 20 piece chicken mcnugget and coming late” said Pulver.

Major kudos go out to the injured Brendan Clemens for playing and Eugene Corcione. Both contributed to the win and we appreciate them stepping up when we needed them.  The Fellas are trying to avoid the injury bug and fans noticed Mark LeMorta was grimacing in pain after his first at bat tonight. He may have potentially pulled a muscle in his back and is listed as day to day. “Luckily my wife ties my shoes for me every morning so I won’t need to bend down tomorrow” said LeMorta. “I hope to rest it this weekend and be ready for Monday.

Suns Out, Guns Out: LeMorta Walk Off Homer Stymies Sun Devils

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: LeMorta's histroic performance backed by great defense and pitching lead to B1 upset.

Going into this game, the Goodfellas have looked less than stellar against B1 opponents being outscored 30-5. But on this night, against their B1 rival Sun Devils the Fellas made history and arguably had one of their best games in franchise history.

The Fellas went ahead early with a 3 run third inning fueled by a leadoff double from John Pulver and an RBI single by Brendan Clemens.  LeMorta then hit a moon shot 2 run homer to propel the fellas to a 3 run advantage. The Sun Devils, however, responded in the top of the 4th with 5 runs and then added another 3 runs in the 5th to go up 8-3. Just when it looked like it was about to slip away, the Fellas rebounded and started to chip away by adding a run in the bottom of the 5th from a SAC FLY from Brendan Clemens. With the Fellas down 8-4 going into the 6th they knew they had to step up, it was just a matter of who was going to be the hero tonight. LeMorta led the inning off with a home run that some estimated ended up in Delmar followed by a single from Jeffrey Brown. The Irishman Tom Conlin and Andrew Dorr hit back to back singles to set the table for Bill Pulver who hit a clutch 2 run single. With the Fellas now only down by 1 with runners on the 2nd and 3rd, they had a tremendous opportunity to pull away. However, they stranded both runners and the only way this game was going to end in their favor was via heroics.

The Fellas kept the Sun Devils at bay in the top of the 7th and the Fellas had Corcione, Clemens and Sidoti leading off the bottom of the 7th. Clemens and Sidoti reached with back to back singles setting the table for the star of the night, Mark LeMorta. With two strikes on him, LeMorta took the 2-2 pitch over the right center field wall for a walk off 3 run home run. This hit was arguably one of the most clutch moments in franchise history and LeMorta set a franchise record with 3 home runs in a game.  The power struggles from year’s past for LeMorta are far behind him as he now has 9 home runs on the season. As LeMorta rounded third, the Goodfellas fan base was going crazy and Big Phil and Dennis Brown were already celebrating by sharing a sub from Subway.

Defensively, the Fellas played their best game of the season with tremendous plays made all around. Defensive standouts included Phil Sidoti, Mark LeMorta, John Pulver, Andrew Dorr and the HUGE sum bitch that plays 3B. After the game, LeMorta addressed the media. “As great as I played tonight and as awesome as it was to hit a walk off, I am more excited that I was able to help the team finish the job.” “Anything I can do to help this team is what I care about. Now if you would excuse me I need to go home and update my stats on my fridge”.

The media also had a chance to catch up with Jeff Brown after the game to get his take on the win.  “This was a HUGE win, o shit I said Huge, I am HUGE!” “ Coach Phil gave me a great suggestion on running the bases tonight, he told me 1st base was McDonalds, 2nd base was Wendy’s, 3rd was KFC and home plate was IHOP. I was able to get to all 4 spots tonight so I was one happy sum bitch.”

It’s All Good: Fellas Explode for 21 Runs

In a season where the Fellas are averaging 15 runs a game, it’s become expected that the Fellas offense would dominate teams in their division. Monday night was no exception as the Goodfellas defeated “It Aint Good” by a final score of 21-6; led by a fury of power and aggressive base running.

The Fellas struck first with an RBI triple from Mark LeMorta followed by a SAC FLY from the cleanup hitter, Ryan Williams. In the second, the Fellas added 3 more runs with Joe Amiccuci & Brian Hoffman getting the inning started with back to back singles. Bill Pulver would single followed by a 2 run single from John Pulver. Fan favorite, Matt Grill capped the inning off with an RBI groundout to put the Fellas up 5-0.

In the third, Phil Sidoti led off with a walk (Giambi Eye), setting the table for Mark LeMorta who hit a towering 2 run home run to center field. Williams then singled followed by a double from Jeffrey Brown (JEFFFFFFSSSS HUGEEEE). A patient Brian Hoffman would walk followed by a 2 run double from the Irishmen Tom Conlin.

The Fellas kept the offensive show in full display the entire game and it was in the 7th inning where the Fellas showed just how quickly you can score runs in this league. Conlin started the inning with a walk followed by a Bill Pulver walk and  a walk from John Pulver. Matt “Propane” Grill then hit an RBI single followed by a single from Brendan Clemens who played a great game fresh off the DL. Phil Sidoti then added an RBI single followed by yet another extra base hit from Mark LeMorta. Rookie sensation Joe Amiccuci then hit a towering home run to left to put the exclamation point on the victory. It should also be noted that in the 6th inning, Ryan Williams made history by being the only player in franchise history to have a 3 run sac fly.

Defensively the Fellas looked solid with great plays made all around. Mark LeMorta stole the show in center field with 2 diving catches. Mr. LeMorta also made zero errors when he came to the infield for the last 2 innings. “Watch out Hoff, I think we have a new second baseman” said LeMorta. When the media asked Coach Phil if he considered making a change at second base he simply responded by saying “no chance in hell.” Other defensive standouts included Ryan Williams and the huge sum bitch that plays third.

The Goodfellas have a 13 day layoff until they face their B1 rival the Sun Devils. Can this be the game the Fellas break through a beat a B1 opponent?

Duke Nukem: Fellas Blast Their Way Past Duke’s Barbershop For Bounce Back Win

It’s no secret, the two week layoff after the Fellas game vs Swiftys had the Fellas itching to get back on the field and get back on track. Last game was one to forget and the Fellas looked to start fresh. With Clemens on the DL, Sidoti led off the game with a double to left field. He would come on to score on LeMorta’s RBI double. In the second, the Fellas added 3 more runs fueled by the Irishman Tom Conlin’s  2 run homer followed by a solo shot from Bill Pulver.  Duke kept it close (too close) and actually lead 5-4 at one point but as the game progressed the Fellas woke up and went on an offensive tear.

In the 4th, Brian Hoffman set the tone with a lead off triple followed by an RBI double from Tom Conlin. Birthday boy Mike Corcione then walked and scored on John Pulver’s 2 run Triple. The 5th inning is where the Fellas essentially sealed the deal with 5 more runs. Joe Amiccuci led off with a double and came on to score by an RBI double from LeMorta. Jeff “Huge” Brown then hit a monster 2 run home run and the hot hitting Tom Conlin followed with his second home run of the evening. Bill Pulver followed suit with a bomb to center field for his second home run. In the sixth, Phil Sidoti led off with a solo home run to left field followed by a solo shot from Joe Amiccuci.  The Fellas would end this one early with a final score of 18-5 and improved to a division leading 6-2 on the season (4-0 in league play).

Defensively, the Fellas didn’t play their best but there were a few gold glove caliber plays from Hoffman, Brown & Sidoti.  The play of the night, however, goes to Dan Ciampino who missed the ball behind plate causing the umpire to get drilled in the head. The umpire had to leave the game with concussion like symptoms. Fans in the stands were questioning if Ciampino missed it on purpose because of the tight strike zone and if he tried to send a message. Ciampino made it clear it after the game that it wasn’t intentional. “I was just amped up and missed the ball, I am going to send the umpire a fruit basket. If I wanted to send a message, I would have just punched him in the face, that’s how I roll.”

The Fellas look to keep the hot hitting going when they play “It Aint Good” on Monday Night.

Not 2 Swift: Fellas Suffer Second Loss to B1 Team

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Poor defense, lack of focus lead to Fellas demise.

After last week's offensive showing the Fellas looked ready to face another upper division opponent. Swifty's, regarded as one of the best teams in the entire league, went ahead early on due to defensive mishaps and a questionable strike zone by the umpire. Tension was high in the game and the Fellas simply just came out flat. Routine plays were booted and the Goodfellas bats were silent in big spots. Early on the Fellas had good opportunities to score but came up short. The Fellas now go into the two week layoff on sour note but look forward to regrouping aganist a B2 team.

Holy Schnikes! – Tommyboy Throws Gem, Williams' Power Surge Fuels Victory

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Conlin delivers in clutch spot and Fellas offense explodes for big victory

After Monday’s disappointing lost to B1 Rival, O’Neal Property Management, you just knew the Fellas were going to do something big tonight to avenge the loss. With both Pulver’s out for this one, Tom Conlin was tagged as the starter and he did exactly what the Fellas were hoping for: throw strikes! Conlin pitched as good as he could have and had tremendous defense to back up his effort. Great plays were made all around with defensive standouts including Jeff Brown, Brian Hoffman and Ryan Williams.

As great as the defense was, no one was beating the Fellas tonight just based on offense alone. The Fellas scored a whopping 23 runs in a mercy rule victory over Stooges; hitting the 20+ mark for the second time this season. Clemens and Sidoti got things started with back to back walks and Clemens would score on Brown’s RBI walk for the 1st run of the game. Clemens then hit a sac fly in the second followed by an RBI single from Sidoti to put the Fellas up 3-0.

Stooges would score one in the second and the Fellas poured it on in the 3rd by scoring 10 runs. Hoffman led off with a booming double followed by 4 walks in row to Amiccuci, Conlin, Corcione and Dorr. Clemens then hit a 2 run double followed by 3 more walks by LeMorta, Williams and Brown. Hoffman then got back to the plate and hit a deep drive to right center field for a grand slam to put the exclamation point on the inning.

In the 5th, Ryan Williams started off with a moon shot solo homerun followed by a basehit from Brown and a walk from Hoffman. Amiccuci, Conlin and Corcione then hit back to back to back singles followed by a 3 run bomb from newly signed free agent Andrew Dorr. Ryan Williams would then go on to hit his second home run of the game the following inning; a towering 3 run shot.

The Fellas offense was electric and that’s including the plenty of missed opportunities with bases loaded. This could have easily been a 30 run game. “We were hitting good but the damn wind man, all I want do is smash son” added Jeff Brown.

Even with team motivational speaker Ryan Windelspecht not showing up to the game, it doesn’t appear the Fellas needed any additional motivation. Although it didn’t affect the team it certainly had an impact on Mark LeMorta’s performance, being the only hitless Goodfella. “I was waiting for Ryan to come and give me a pep talk but he never showed up.” “My legs felt like jello tonight (no wonder why Jeff Brown kept looking at my legs) I just didn’t drive the ball like I have been. It’s all good though, I’ll be hitting off the tee all weekend to get ready for next week.”

Newly acquired Goodfellas, Andrew Dorr shined bright in his debut, going 2/3 with a 3 run homer. The addition of Dorr, however, seemed to impact Amiccuci throughout the game. “I was trying so hard to impress Andrew” said Joe. “I mean I’ve been telling him how great we’ve been doing and I really wanted him to think I was playing SS like my boy Jeter.”

The Fellas look to keep this momentum going as they play another B1 foe, Swifty’s Tuesday at 7:30.

Why Do We Fall: Fella's Dealt First Loss Of Season

It has been exactly 300 days since the Goodfellas lost a game and tonight’s opponent was against the team that defeated them. Although a Non League game since O’Neal Property Management is in B1 the Fellas wanted this one badly to avenge last year’s lost. Unfortunately you could tell how badly they wanted it and it was obvious that they were pressing early on.  The Fellas found themselves down 6-0 early on but fought back to make it a 6-3 score. O’Neal then got hot in the 6th and 7th and scored 7 more runs to run away with it and deal the Fellas their first loss of the season.

John Pulver  hung in there on the mound but walks and defensive mishaps led to the Fellas demise.  O’Neal’s pitcher who they called in just to pitch this game threw well and kept the Goodfellas off balance all night.  It was a somber dugout after the game but the Fellas look to get back on track on Thursday with their game vs Stooges.

On a “lighter” note, Jeff Brown lost 4 pounds this week.

Elite Status: Amiccuci Provides Power, Brown Joins A Gym To Spark 4th Straight Win

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Fellas offense pours it on as Amiccuci & Brown lead fellas to 4-0 start

With all the momentum going their way, the Fellas faced a familiar foe in Elite who on this night they would dominate; winning 16-1 in mercy rule ending victory. Before the game even started though, all the hype was around Jeff Brown as for just the second time in his life joined a gym. This is a significant step for Jeff as he has decided now is the time to focus on his health. “I feel really good about my decision to join a gym. They have a pool, a rock wall and it’s conveniently located next door to a Dunkin Donuts.”  Jeff looks to focus on his cardiovascular fitness and is hoping to drop some weight by the All-Star break.  Jeff consulted with team strength coach, Ryan Williams, and developed a new plan to get him in better shape. Ryan originally suggested working more on his forearms, but Jeff did not feel like making the investment in a new laptop. Could this be the end of HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?

Once everyone calmed down regarding Jeff’s announcement, the Fellas wasted little time putting runs on the board. Phil Sidoti hit a double down the line followed by an opposite field 2 run home run from Mark LeMorta. The Fellas then scored 4 more runs in the 3rd fueled by Ryan Williams 2 run single and Jeff Brown’s 2 run double. The 4th inning is where the Fellas really poured it on by scoring 9 more runs.  Joe Amiccuci started the offensive clinic with a walk followed by 5 singles in a row by Bill Pulver, Tom Conlin, John Pulver, Mike Corcione and Brendan Clemens. Conlin’s single was a 2 run drive and Corcione plated one.

Sidoti then hit an RBI double followed by an RBI single from Ryan Williams. Brian Hoffman would then add an RBI single of his own to set the stage for player of the game Joe Amiccuci. “The Cooch” hit a 3 run drive over the left field fence to conclude the scoring for the Fellas in the 4th. The scoring would conclude in the 5th as Ryan William’s RBI single scored Sidoti for the 16th run.

Defensively the Goodfellas looked solid with great plays made all around. Defensive standouts included Jeff Brown who made great plays at third and Mark LeMorta for his 1 inning stint at shortstop and having a flawless pre inning warmup. Ryan Williams and John Pulver also flashed the leather tonight and made some nice plays.  John Pulver, although not at his best still pitched great, striking out 6 and only allowed 1 run. His walk total was higher than desired but the battery of Bill & John Pulver was able to guide the Goodfellas to where they needed to be.

The Goodfellas face a B1 foe next week (Amiccui’s former team) and will be ready to try and improve to 5-0.

Magic MARKer: Fellas Mow Down Complete Lawn Care for Win #3

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: LeMorta renaissance continues; great defense and timely hits give Fellas win #3.

After last week’s historic performance The Goodfellas looked to improve to 3-0 on the young season and faced Complete Lawn Care, a foe they faced in the 2013 championship game.  The Fellas, although not as sharp as last time, defeated Complete Lawn Care by a final score of 9-4 fueled by timely hitting, great pitching and stellar defense.

Player of the game, Mark LeMorta, started the scoring with a big RBI double in the first and Jeff Brown then added an RBI single. Joe Amiccuci would then hit a towering RBI double to left field to make the score 3-0. In the third, LeMorta kept up his unbelievable start with a 2 run moon shot home run to right center field.  In the 5th,  Tom Conlin hit a double down the line scoring Amiccuci to put the fellas up 7-1. In the 6th Amicucci hit a double down the line and would come on to score via Bill Pulver’s 2 run blast to right center for the 9th run. Complete Lawn Care made it interesting in the 6th but the Fellas defense and pitching was too much for them to overcome.

Great defensive plays were made all around with standouts including Phil Sidoti, Jeff Brown, John Pulver and Brian Hoffman.  On a slow roller to third, Jeff bare handed the ball and made a strong throw to first for the out. Jeff credits his offseason fielding drills for the spectacular play and when asked by the media about it Jeff added: “Well I am all about simulation so in the offseason I picked an item that I could envision being the ball and practice bare handing it over and over again. It’s amazing what a jelly doughnut can do for you.”

During pregame warmups, LeMorta realized he had forgotten his bat at home and feared it would impact his performance tonight.  It didn’t seem to matter what bat he went up there with; everything he hits ends up 20 feet over the fence.  When asked about his magical start to the season Mark LeMorta praised his son and agent for the turnaround. “When it came down to talking turkey in the offseason my agent really stepped up. He got me the bat I needed, the tools I needed to be successful; I can’t thank Mark V enough.  And Coach Phil talks about practice…. I ain’t need no practice!”

The media also had a chance to speak with Goodfellas outfielder, Mike Corcione on the outcome of the game: “We did good” said Corcione. Rumors are swirling around regarding the health of Goodfellas slugger Ryan Williams. Williams has been battling an arm injury and hasn’t been able to play the infield this season.  Being the true warrior that he is, Williams refuses to let it bother him and continues to be an active contributor. We tried reaching him via telephone this evening for a comment on his condition but it appears he may have lost his phone. Again.

The Fellas look to continue to path to greatness as they take on Elite next week in Game 4.

Matchbox 20: Offensive Explosion Propels Fellas to Second Win

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWNOffensive onslaught leads to franchise records and second win of the season

For just the 4th time in franchise history, The Goodfellas scored 20 or more runs and Matchbox fell victim to one of the best offensive showings in Goodfella’s history.  Every player had a hit and the team set a franchise best with 6  home runs in one game. The Goodfellas also scored 27 runs, which is a franchise record.

With so many offensive stars, the player of the game selection was one of most difficult we’ve seen in some time. After the votes came in, however, it was clear that the “Year of LeMorta” would prevail as the star of the game. LeMorta hit for the cycle, had two monster 3 run home runs and had a whopping 8 RBI to take the crown. LeMorta now has as many home runs in 2 games as the entire team had all of last year. LeMorta is also batting a perfect 1.000 going a perfect 7/7 to start the season.

Rookie Joe Amiccuci also had a big night, hitting two home runs of his own with 5 RBI. Joe was also only a triple away from the cycle and is off to a tremendous start this year. Not to be overshadowed,  Jeff Brown continued swinging his hot stick by hitting a grand slam and having 5 RBI on the night. As Jeff rounded the bases, however, there appeared to be confusion as he thought his “grand slam” was actually a grand slam from Denny’s. Disappointed that a short stack didn’t appear at home plate, Jeff jogged quietly around the bases, hungry and somewhat disappointed.

Other offensive stars included Ryan Williams, who hit his first home run of the season. Brian Hoffman also continued his hot hitting by going 4/5 with 3 RBI. Brendan Clemens also had a break out night, picking up 2 hits and 2 RBI. John Pulver, Mike Corcione and Tom Conlin also had great nights at the plate. Pulver had 2 RBI and was a homer away from the cycle, and Corcione and Conlin had timely hits as well. Matt Grill also shined in his season debut going a perfect 4/4 with an RBI.

Defensively (not that it mattered), the Fellas played solid and John Pulver pitched a great game, allowing only 4 runs and striking out 4.

The Fellas are red hot and it couldn’t come at a better time as next week is a rematch of the 2013 title game vs Complete Lawn Care. You can bet Complete Lawn Care is looking for vengeance.

Speaking of vengeance, manager Phil Sidoti is contemplating a 1 inning suspension for both Mark LeMorta and Brian Hoffman. Hoffman for sending false in game coverage and LeMorta for speaking to the media without consent.  Coach Phil was interviewed via telephone after the big win. “I wasn’t too happy with Mr. Hoffman and LeMorta was just flat out misinformed” said Sidoti. “They played great so I will probably let this one slip by, but the next offense will result in picking up the tab when bringing Jeff Brown out for dinner.”

Right On Cue: Fellas Start Title Defense With Big Win

After an offseason of celebrating their first championship and getting in shape (JEFFFFS HUGGEE) the Goodfellas came into this game looking to pick up right where they left off.  How would the new guys perform? Would Pulver continue his dominance? Is 2014 really the season of “LeMorta”? A lot of those questions got answered tonight with a dominant performance by the Goodfellas, beating former B1 foe Golden Cue 11-1.

Pulver delivered as advertised, dominating Golden Cue and racking up a whopping 10 strikeouts.  The battery of Bill and John Pulver appears to be clicking early and John kept Golden Cue off balance all night. Defensively the Fellas played flawlessly, committing no errors and making tremendous plays all around. With Ryan Williams being a late scratch at shortstop, new comer Joe Amiccuci filled in nicely and rounded out a solid SS/2B combo with 3 time “U IS” Award winner Brian Hoffmann.  Williams played RF to limit his throwing due to injury, causing Manager Phil Sidoti to swap LeMorta and Clemens last minute in the defensive alignment. LeMorta did not see much action in the outfield tonight and Clemens made some nice plays, causing Mark to complain about his lack of defensive love.  LeMorta would later calm down and take his aggression out at the plate.

Offensively the Goodfellas looked as dominate as they did in 2013 with clutch hits and solid line drives hit around. Phil Sidoti picked up the first hit of the 2014 campaign for the Goodfellas and would come on to score from an error by Golden Cue’s first basemen. In the second, Joe Amiccuci picked up his first hit as a Goodfella in as many chances.  He would come on to score, alongside Bill Pulver, on new comer Tom Conlin’s clutch 2-run double to right.  The Fellas would pour it on in the 4th by scoring 4 more runs. Sidoti led the inning off with a single followed by a walk from LeMorta. Williams then hit an RBI single followed by big 3 run home run by Brian Hoffman.

In the 6th, Mark LeMorta took out his defensive anger by hitting a monster solo shot to center field. With this homer, LeMorta matches his 2013 season total in just the first game. Could the year of LeMorta be authentic? Or is he simply just not sucking?  Williams then picked up another hit and scored on Jeff Brown’s RBI single. Brown would then come on to score from Amiccuci’s RBI single.

After the game the media had a chance to meet up with Michael Nicastro, Golden Cue’s second basemen and LeMorta’s brother-in-law regarding his controversial comments on social media regarding tonight’s game. He posted several messages calling out the Goodfellas and guaranteeing victory for Golden Cue. He declined to comment and media outlets are reporting that he was crying in his car with his girlfriend handing him tissues. The media also spoke to LeMorta regarding his effort tonight. “We got the W and I had a good night but I’m still pissed at coach Phil… moves me in the outfield, then gets out in the 6th, taking an at bat away from me, COME ON COACH!”

The Fellas look to keep the momentum going with their next game being on May 9th, 7:30 PM at the Field of Dreams.
