"Mark"ing Their Territory: LeMorta Leads Fellas to B2 Championship Game

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Offense steps up and defense is solid to proper Goodfellas to b2 champsionship game

8.28.13-
Fresh off their double header sweep two weeks ago, The Fellas entered the post season ready to pursue their first championship in franchise history. Many were nervous that star outfielder Mark LeMorta would be unavailable for this contest due to his pee-pee injury that he suffered last week. However, LeMorta was able to keep it together and with a little Neosporin and ice, Lemorta was able to keep his shaft in check.

The Fellas struck early with 2 runs in the first with a 2 run home run from Ryan Williams. In the second, The fellas added 2 more fueled by a leadoff walk from Mike Corcione and a base hit from Keith Barrell. Matt Grill then hit a big 2 run double to give the Goodfellas a 4-0 advantage.  The Fellas would then add a run in the 3rd courtesy of Brian Hoffman’s RBI single. Going into the 4th it was 5-0 Fellas and the Fellas defense looked crisp. John Pulver, although didn’t have his best stuff, pitched great and got out of key jams.

Half Cocked (not Mark LeMorta), made it interesting in the 4th by scoring 3 runs on a defensive mishap, making the score 5-3. However, The Goodfellas struck right back by scoring 4 runs. Matt Grill reached on a base hit followed by an RBI double from Brendan Clemens. Phil Sidoti then drew a walk and Mark LeMorta drilled a 3 run triple. Ryan Williams then hit a SAC Fly to contribute another run and to put the Fellas up 9-3.  After the SAC Fly, Ryan Williams proceeded to put a wad of dip in his mouth and was very satisfied with his performance up to this point.

The Fellas had Half-Cocked on the ropes and in the 5th inning sealed the deal by scoring 5 runs and ending the game via the mercy rule. Brian Hoffman got things started with a base hit followed by another base hit from Keith Barrell. It should be noted that Hoffman ran to first very awkwardly and was making a dribbling motion with his hands as he ran. It appears Hoffman may be having trouble letting go of his hopes of being a star basketball player.

John Pulver then reached via a fielder’s choice followed by an RBI triple from Matt Grill (Grill was cookin this game) . Brendan Clemens then hit an RBI single and Phil Sidoti added a single of his own. The big blow came from Mark LeMorta, who hit one of the farthest home runs you will ever see. LeMorta sent a towering shot to right center fielder and his three run walk off home run took the Goodfellas to the next round of the post season.  This may be the first time in that past week we could say LeMorta had a “big stick”

The Goodfellas although in good shape on the field may be running into financial trouble. Since the team’s medical staff had trouble locating Mark LeMorta’s injured johnson, they had to invest in a state of the art microscope capable of seeing extremely small specimen.  Hopefully, the team can avoid further financial hardship.

How Sweep It Is! : Fella's Win Double Header & Clinch Regular Season Title

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Fellas rebound with 2 huge wins to clinch regular season title and #1 seed in playoffs

8.14.13-
After last week’s poor performance the Goodfellas looked to rebound in a double header that had major playoff implications. If the Fellas swept they would clinch the #1 seed and the regular season title. The first game was against Complete Lawn Care, a foe they faced the first game of the season and lost 7-5. However, Complete Lawn Care has never seen John Pulver and this is a different Goodfellas team since earlier in the year. The game was very close, with the Goodfellas having a 2-0 lead going into the six inning.

The Fellas got their first run with a solo shot from Keith “The Marine” Barrell and their second run came in similar fashion with a moon shoot home run from Dan Ciampino. The Fellas would essentially seal the deal in the bottom of the 6th as they scored 5 big runs. Bill Pulver, who is still recovering from the Burger King hoax, led off with a base hit followed by a base hit from Brendan Clemens. Phil Sidoti & Mark LeMorta then hit back to back RBI doubles and Ryan Williams added a 2 run double to conclude the scoring.

The Goodfellas defense was phenomenal with great plays made all around. Notable defensive standouts included Brian Hoffman who "put out" more than a Ryan Williams mistress and John Pulver who made tremendous plays.  This was easily one of the best defensive games the Fellas had all season and John Pulver pitched a gem leading the Fellas to a 7-0 victory.

It should be noted that Mark LeMorta almost missed this game due to injury and was questionable for game 2 as well. Over the weekend, he severly injured his wiener when he got it stuck in the fly of his jeans. Although LeMorta refuses to comment on the matter, media outlets have reported that LeMorta was getting a spray tan in preparation for a bachelor party (isn’t that odd, its all dudes?) and the incident occurred when he was getting dressed. The injury didn’t appear to affect his performance and it appears he will make a full recovery.

In game 2, the Fellas continued their great defense but it was their offense that stole the headlines. The Goodfellas scored 29 runs, setting a franchise record and is the highest total scored by any team in the league this season. Every Goodfella had at least 2 hits and at least 1 RBI. The game was relatively close going into the 5 inning where the Fellas added 2 runs followed by a 5 spot in the 6th. It was the top of the 7th were all hell broke loose as the Fellas scored 16 runs (it could have been 19 but Ryan Williams, Mark LeMorta and Phil Sidoti  exhibited poor base running).

In the bottom of the 7th, Phil Sidoti came in for relief of Pulver to earn his first and only save of the season (yes it’s a save Keith- waaahhhhhhh).

With this victory the Goodfellas won the regular season title and clinched the #1 seed in the playoffs. As it appears right now, the Goodfellas will face Half Cocked (should be Mark LeMorta’s new nickname after accident) in the first round of the post season which is scheduled to begin the week of August 26.

Streak Snapped: Fellas Drop Close Game To B1 Foe

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Winning streak ends on sloppy defense and mystery text message

8.6.13- Riding high on their 7 game winning streak the Fellas were ready to take on B1 leader O'Neal Property Management. Former Goodfella, Dustin Teta was on the opposing team and the Fellas were looking to DO WORK against their former outfielder.

The Goodfellas got off to a tremendous start by scoring 5 runs in the first inning fueled by back to back walks from Clemens & Sidoti and back to back singles from Mark LeMorta and Ryan Williams. The big blow came from Keith “The Marine” Barrell who hit a 3-run triple which was followed up by an rbi single from John Pulver.

Defensively the Fellas looked solid in the first 3 innings by only allowing O’Neal to score 3 runs and Pulver appeared to have decent stuff. However, the second half of the game was atrocious as the Fellas started to resemble the Mets defense.  Poor defensive plays and walks led to O'Neal scoring 4 runs in the 4th to go ahead 6-5. The damage could have been a lot worse but Matt Grill made a great play at 2B with the bases loaded to limit the damage.

The real turning point of the game however came in the 5th inning when Bill Pulver received a text message from the CEO of Burger King. Although most likely spam, the message stated that if Pulver left right then that second he would be eligible to receive 100 free Whoppers and a small fry. The Fellas tried to convince him that it was spam message but as soon as we said “spam” he got even hungrier. Pulver’s surprise departure caused the Fellas to have to continue the game with 9 and when Pulver was due up it was an automatic out.

The Fellas tried to regroup and added 2 runs in the 6th and had some momentum going. However, the automatic out ended their 6th inning momentum.  Oneal would drive the score up to 11-7 and the Fellas were lucky that damage wasn’t worse. They started a mini rally in the 7th but would only score one run and their winning streak would end.

You could hear a pin drop (and the sound of Ryan Williams spitting his tobacco juice) at the end of the game. This was the Fella's first loss since May 31 and they knew they let one slip away. Manager Phil Sidoti was unavailable after the game for comment but the media was able to snag Mark LeMorta for a comment. “Coach was upset, haven’t seen him like that since Giambi was caught in the BALCO scandal”. LeMorta added: “We will be ready to play next week and we will do work.”

Other media outlets have reported that Bill Pulver did not receive his whoppers as expected. Manager Phil Sidoti would not elaborate on his discussion with Pulver but added the following commentary: “We were disappointed there’s no question about that, but it’s time to move on and focus on next week’s double header.”  “If it was 1999-2000, I probably would have jumped on that text message offer myself”.

7th Heaven: Fellas Beat Sun Devils for 7th Straight Win

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Pulver brothers deliver with pitching and clutch defense as Fellas squad gets clutch hits to seal the upset

7.31.13 - After last week’s offensive clinic the Fellas put on vs. Family Danz, they knew they would need clutch hitting to have a shot vs. the B1 Sun Devils.  If Pulver could deliver a solid outing and if the Fellas defense remained hot, the Fellas would have a great chance to upset the Sun Devils.

John Pulver wasted little time setting the tone in this game by retiring the side in order in the first inning. The Fellas then had two singles from Mark LeMorta and Ryan Williams but failed to score in the bottom of the first. It was a very quick 1st inning and it looked like this game was going to fly by with it coming down to the defense. This game was going as fast as Ryan Williams doing P90x (note Ryan is the only person ever to finish P90x in just 60 days).

The Devils would strike first by scoring 2 runs in the top of the second and the Fellas went hitless in the second inning. The big blow came in the 3rd inning with 2 outs as Phil Sidoti got things started with a base hit to keep the inning alive. With Clemens advancing to second on the base hit, LeMorta’s clutch double would score Clemens. Ryan Williams then hit a 2 run double followed by Dan Ciampino’s RBI single to conclude the 4 run inning. Mark LeMorta was extremely happy with the inning and media outlets have reported (although not confirmed) that Mark was seen rubbing his nipples in excitement when he rounded third base.

John Pulver, who pitched a tremendous game, kept the Sun Devils scoreless in the 4th and only allowed one more run in the 5th. A completely hydrated Dan Ciampino then added the 5th run in the 5th inning with a base hit and it would prove to be enough to put the Sun Devils away.  Although he did not score a run or have an RBI, it should be noted that Bill Pulver (the real freight train) was a home run away from the cycle and he made 2 tremendous plays in RF during critical parts of the game. Bill Pulver, however, was disappointed to learn that “can of corn” meant a catch and that he would not be getting a mid inning snack.

Brian Hoffman was not able to attend tonight’s contest due to a conflict with his basketball schedule. The Fellas don’t anticipate Hoffman missing anymore time as management feels Hoffman has realized that “white men can’t jump” and that basketball sucks unless your name is Lebron James.

After the game, Michael Corcione was asked how it felt to beat the Sun Devils. “Felt good” said Corcione. Mark Lemorta, who is never at a loss for words added “we did work tonight, and yes folks I did indeed squeeze my nipples when rounding third.” #lactate

Pulver Express: Fellas Win 6th Game In Row

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Fellas pour it on for 6th straight win, pitching and defense solid

After their huge win last week, the Goodfellas looked to secure their 6th victory in a row vs. Family Danz on a beautiful night at the Field of Dreams. Mark Vincent LeMorta was in attendance to watch his father “DO WORK” but it appears that Mark V. “dropped more bombs” than his father tonight.

The Goodfellas got things started early on with a leadoff single from Brendan Clemens and a double from Phil Sidoti. Mark LeMorta hit a 2 run single to give the Goodfellas a 2-0 nothing lead. In the 2nd, Keith “the Marine” Barrell kept up his renaissance with a base hit followed by a 2 Run double by John Pulver, who appeared to be running to second in hopes of finding a double quarter pounder  (needless to say he was disappointed when he got to second).

Now up 4-0 the Fellas looked ready to put it on cruise control but Family Danz made it interesting by scoring three runs to make the Fellas start to sweat (note: Dan Ciampino was already sweating in the top of the 1st, literally). With Family Danz adding the pressure the Fellas responded with a monster inning scoring 6 runs. The scoring was led by John Pulver, who hit a monster home run to right field (only the third over the fence homerun hit by a Fella this year, #needroids). Matt Grill then hit a base hit and Mark LeMorta walked to set the table for Brian Hoffman. Hoffman hit a 2 run single and Ryan Williams followed suite with an RBI single. Keith Barrell then hit a sac fly to score the 6th run. Barrell looked very good tonight and appears to have fix his swing. Could he be the new renaissance man? (note: Jason Giambi was nicked named the renaissance man in 2005).

In the 7th, Brendan Clemens hit a single and Phil Sidoti stretched his single into a double. The crowd gasped as he rounded first but he made it safely into second. His father, who was in the stands, missed the play since he was buying a hot dog at the concession stand but he was happy to hear his son’s sciatic was not hurting him. Mark LeMorta and Brian Hoffman then hit back to back singles allowing another run to score.

Overall, this was a great game for the Fellas, with great defense played all around and John Pulver pitching a gem. Pulver was also very quick on his feet tonight and we haven’t seen him this agile since Mr Ding A Ling was driving down Sand Creek Road. Pulver took charge tonight and made some great defensive plays, getting over to first base faster than the amount of time it took for the Mets to be out of playoff contention.  Pulver’s nick name” Freight Train” was very fitting tonight.

With the Fellas up 14-3 the team decided to have some fun and move positions around. Keith Barrell played center field and made some great plays. Could the Marine possibly replace LeMorta? In addition, Mark LeMorta played first base which was an absolute waste of his talent. Speed, laser arm and agility aren’t exactly the attributes of a first baseman, which is why Phil Sidoti is the starting first basemen.

After the game, the media had a chance to catch up with Mark LeMorta on his experience playing first. “I definitely brought sexy back to first base” said LeMorta. “Nothing against coach but the ladies would much rather watch me stretch then him.”. Phil Sidoti declined to comment, as he was busy after the game trying to convince John Pulver and Bill Pulver that eating 5 big macs was a bad idea.

WOOOOO!: Fellas Beat Elite With 5th Straight Win

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Tremendous pitching and big hits led to 5th straight win and revenge for the Fellas

7.19.13- On May 31st The Goodfellas faced Elite and lost a heart breaker 13-12 and it was a tough loss for the Fellas to swallow. The Fellas had the rematch with Elite circled on their calendar and vowed to grasp their vengeance from the number one team in the league.  This game had a ton of hype going into it, especially with the emitional pre-game message from the Nature Boy Ric Flair.

The Fellas scored a run early with Brendan Clemens getting things started with a double and Mark Lemorta’s groundout would allow Clemens to score. In the second, Ryan Williams led off with a triple and came in to score on Dan Ciampino’s RBI single. Elite struck back with runs in the 3rd and then took a 1 run led in the 4th. The lead didn’t last long as the Goodfellas answered with 2 runs in the 5th. Keith Barrell reached with a base hit and scored on John Pulver’s RBI triple. Pulver, with his aggressive base running came on to score on a sac fly from Dave Mosher.

With the Fellas up by 1, they knew they needed to keep the pressure on Elite and capitalize. They did just that by scoring 3 more runs in the 6th. Phil Sidoti led the inning off by getting hit by a pitch and Brian Hoffman reached with a base hit. Ryan Williams then hit an RBI single followed by a big 2 run single from Dan Ciampino. With the defense playing well and with John Pulver pitching a gem the Fellas were 3 outs away from pulling off the upset.

However, before Elite would have a chance to score in the bottom of the 7th, the Fellas put the nail in the coffin in the top of the 7th by scoring 5 runs (total 10 unanswered runs). All five runs came on a two out rally started by Phil Sidoti’s base hit followed by a base hit from Mark LeMorta and back to back walks from Brian Hoffman and Ryan Williams. Dan Ciampino then hit a 2 run double followed by a 2 run single from Mike Corcione.  Pulver came out in the bottom of the 7th and shut down Elite to pull off the critical victory.

The Fellas have now won 5 in a row and the defeat of Elite was critical as they continue down the second half stretch.

Luck Of The Irish: Williams Delivers Big Hit In Walk Off Win

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Timely hitting and clutchness seal 4 game winning streak

7.8.13-
The last time the Fella’s faced Grand Premier they survived a close game and pulled out a 3-2 victory. And in their second contest the intensity would almost replicate their first meeting with the game going right down to the wire. The first game featured tremendous defense and pitching resulting in a lower score, however, the second game was an offensive showdown.

Grand Premier got things started with 1 run in the 1st and the Goodfellas responded with 2 of their own. Brendan Clemens led off with a base hit and would come around to score on Mark Lemorta’s RBI triple. Brian Hoffman then hit a sac fly to give the Fellas their second run. In the third, Grand Premier and the Fellas both scored three runs.  Phil Sidoti started the third with a base hit followed by back to back walks from Hoffman and Williams. Dan Ciampino’s sac fly would score one run followed by a clutch 2 run single from Mike Corcione.

Neither team would score again until the 5th with Grand Premier adding one run and the Fellas putting on an offensive clinic by scoring 6 runs. Ryan Williams led the 5th off with a solo HR. Keith Barrell would then walk and would score on John Pulver’s RBI triple. Bill Pulver then added an RBI single and Brendan Clemens  walked with his “Giambi Eye”. Phil Sidoti then hit an RBI single with Brian Hoffman adding an RBI single of his own, to give the Fellas their 6th run of the inning.

It appeared the Fellas were well on their way to victory but Grand Premier fought back and scored 7 runs in the 6 to take a 1 run lead.  The Fellas would go scoreless in the 6th and kept Grand Premier at bay for the 6th and 7th. It would come down to the bottom of the 7th with the Fellas down by 1 and the only way they would survive would be via the walk off.

Bill Pulver started off the inning with a walk and Phil Sidoti’s single advanced Bill to second. Brendan Clemens lined out and Mark Lemorta then walked to load the bases and the Fellas were in a great spot to win the game.  Brian Hoffman came up with 1 out and popped out to the pitcher, resulting in the second out and the fate of the Goodfellas resting on the broad shoulders of Ryan Williams. In dramatic fashion Ryan delivered with a huge base hit up the middle scoring 2 runs and winning the game for the Goodfellas.

The Fellas, now 7-3 and riding a 4 game winning streak will take on Elite next week in a rematch that Fellas have been waiting for.

Cockmaster Williams: Fellas Start Second Half with Big Win

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Fellas get their revenge with timely hitting and clutch defense to set the tone for the second half

7.2.13- As the Goodfellas pass the midway point of the season, every game is crucial to ensuring they have a spot in the playoffs. The 5-3 Goodfellas are right in the thick of the playoff race with the 3 and 4 seeds still wide open. After Sunday’s crucial win the Fellas looked for revenge against Half Cocked, a team that the Goodfellas could have beaten in their first meeting. With Half-Cocked being close in the playoff race, the Fellas needed this win to set the tone for the second half of the season.

The game was scoreless after the first two innings and the Fellas struck in the top of the third with 3 runs. Brendan Clemens got things started with a base hit followed by a single from Phil Sidoti and an RBI single from Mark LeMorta.  Phil Sidoti would come on to score on a throwing error from Half Cocked and LeMorta would score on a base hit from Ryan Williams. Half Cocked answered back in the bottom of the 3rd with 4 runs and the Fellas struck back with 3 more in the top of 4th.

Mike Corcione led the 4th off with a base hit followed by a walk from John Pulver (holy shit he didn’t swing 3-0). Matt “Propane” Grill then hit an RBI single followed by a 2 run triple from Phil Sidoti. In the 5th the Fellas added another run, fueled by a lead off triple from Ryan Williams and RBI single from Mike Corcione.

The Goodfellas defensive kept Half Cocked at bay and the Fellas would hang on to win 7-4. Notable defensive standouts included the tag team of Ryan Williams and Matt Grill who made spectacular plays in the game, including a critical double play. Brendan Clemens made a tremendous catch in right center and John Pulver pitched well and had 2Ks.

The Fellas are now 6-3 and are primed to make a run in the second half. The Fellas looked to extend the winning streak to 4 in a row when they take on Grand Premier on July 8.

Back On The Field & "On the Mark" - Fellas Win 7-2

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: 9 proves to be enough as Fellas scrap together victory after 1 month layoff

6.30.13-
After nearly a month layoff The Goodfellas were anxious to get back on the field to continue their quest for greatness.  The Goodfellas franchise, who were winless in games prior to 12 noon in their history (struggglin/don’t show up) looked to get their 5th win of the season against McDermott's Garage.

Due to poor field conditions at the Field of Dreams, the game was moved to Bishop Maginn High School.  The Goodfellas were short staffed for this contest, with Billy Ferris on the DL and Matt Grill out. Ryan Williams was a no show, with rumors swirling that he may have been suffering a severe hangover after his night at Waterworks Pub.

Eugene Corcione came to the game as a spectator and found himself playing 2B to start the game to avoid a Goodfellas forfeit. Bill Pulver came shortly after to replace Eugene and the Goodfellas continued the game with 9 players. Eugene recently had surgery to remove screws from his knees and was in no condition to play and the Goodfellas appreciate him stepping up to fill the void.

This contest was much closer then it should have been, with the Goodfellas bats going silent early on. Brendan Clemens started the bottom of the first with a base hit, followed by a HBP from Phil Sidoti. Mark LeMorta then hit a an RBI Double with Dan Ciampino hitting a SAC FLY to put the Fellas up 2-1. The offense would remain some what quiet, with the score being 3-2 going into the 5th inning. The Fellas added 2 more in the 5th with Mark LeMorta reaching with a base hit and scoring on Brian Hoffman’s RBI Double. Dan Ciampino then beat out a grounder to short, scoring Hoffman to conclude the scoring in the 5th. In the 6th, The Fellas added 2 more runs with an RBI double from Brendan Clemens and  an RBI single from Phil Sidoti.

The Fellas then retired the side in the top of the 7th to clinch the 7-2 victory. John Pulver, pitched well and collected 4K’s in the contest. Great defensive plays were made all around, with notable defensive standouts being Keith Barrell and Mike Corcione. With this win, the Goodfellas are still in third place and look primed to make a run in the second half of the season.

All In the Family: Fellas Band Together, Rebound with Big Victory

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Facing a familiar foe, the Fellas rebound with a good start from Pulver and timely hitting from a resurrected offense.

Friday night’s tough loss was still fresh in the minds of the Goodfellas and the team knew they had to get back on track. Family Danz, an opponent the Fellas have had little luck with in the past was vying to dethrone the Fellas from 4th place. However, with the Fellas seeking redemption, Family Danz would quickly found out this was a different Goodfellas team.

John Pulver, who struggled in his previous outing, was visibly more comfortable as he took the mound. Although the number of walks was still high, his location was much better and had three strike outs; limiting Family Danz to just 3 runs.

Family Danz scored 2 of their three runs in the first and the Fellas responded with 3 runs of their own. Brendan Clemens lead off with a walk followed by a base hit from Phil Sidoti. Mark LeMorta and Brian Hoffman added back to back RBI singles and a ground ball from Ryan Williams’ earned the Fella’s their 3rd run.  In the second, Matt Grill hit a sac fly to put the Fellas up 4-2 and in the third, the Fellas poured it on with 4 more runs. Brian Hoffman and Ryan Williams hit back to back singles and Dan Ciampino drove Hoffman in with an RBI single. Mike Corcione and John Pulver followed suit, each contributing an RBI single of their own. Matt Grill would conclude the scoring in the 4th, with an RBI single to give the Fellas an 8-3 lead.

The scoring didn’t stop there, as the Fellas scored 3 more runs in the 4th inning. Phil Sidoti and Brian Hoffman each hit base hits followed by a 2 run triple from Ryan Williams. Ryan Williams would come on to score on Dan Ciampino’s sac fly to give the Fellas an 11-3 advantage.

Defensively, the Goodfellas looked solid providing great support to Pulver’s effort.  This was a big win for the Fellas and everyone contributed to the victory.

In other news, after the game John Pulver asked his brother Bill Pulver if he was hungry and he said no. This may be a bigger headline then the victory. According the Mike Corcione, who is around the Pulver brothers more than anyone, this may be the first time this has happened.

E-Lite: With Top Team on Ropes, Fellas Can't Close Deal

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: With the top team on the ropes, physical and mental errors on the diamond result in tough loss in 7

5.31.13- After motivational speeches from WWE hall of famers Ric Flair and Hacksaw Jim Duggan, the Goodfellas were anxious to get on the field to take on 5-0 Elite, the top team in the league.  The fellas knew their offense would have to come alive as they skated by last week with only scoring 3 runs.

Ace John Pulver took the mound and it was evident early on that he didn’t have his best stuff. Elite scored 2 runs in the top of the first but the Fellas responded with 3 runs. Phil Sidoti was hit by a pitch followed by Ryan Williams’ base hit. Mark Lemorta then hit a 2 run triple and Dan Ciampino added an rbi single to swing the momentum back to the Goodfellas. In the second, however, Elite scored a run and then had bases loaded with 2 outs.  Pulver gave up a grand slam allowing Elite to take a 7-3 advantage.

The fellas did no waiver and fought right back scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the third. Ryan Williams reached on a fielder’s choice followed by a base hit from Mark Lemorta. Brian Hoffman and Dan Ciampino then hit back to back RBI singles and Mike Corcione added an RBI single of his own, tying the game at 7.

Elite would score a run in the 4th to go up 8-7 and the Fellas would strike in the bottom of the fourth with a vengeance. The fellas scored 5 runs and Brian Hoffman and Dan Ciampino got things started with back to back singles. Keith “The Marine” Barrell then hit an RBI single and Matt Grill added an RBI single of his own. With two outs and runners in scoring position, Brendan Clemens hit a clutch 2 run double followed by an RBI single from Phil Sidoti. There was no turning  back  now with the fellas up 12-8 and the team was 6 outs away from the biggest upset of the year.

Elite trimmed the deficit to 3 by adding a run in the 6th and the Fellas needed just needed 3 outs to get the win. A leadoff walk followed by a base hit from Elite put them in position to strike. The Fellas would record an out and needed two more to seal the upset. However, defensive blunders and inconsistent pitch location allowed Elite to score 4 runs to take a 13-12 lead. In the bottom of the 7th, Pulver led off with a walk and Brendan Clemens hit a base hit. Phil Sidoti hit a fly ball to left allowing the runners to tag; a base hit would win the game. Ryan Williams came to the plate and hit a shot down the right field line but an Elite defender was there to make the catch, resulting in one of the most disappointing losses in franchise history.

You could hear a pin drop in the Goodfellas dugout and the team knew they let a golden opportunity slip away. The positive takeaway, however, is that the Goodfellas had the #1 team on the ropes and know they have what it takes to beat anyone. The Goodfellas need to put this one behind them and focus on their next opponent, Family Danz, which is fighting them for 4th place.

Grill Thrill: Stellar Defense, Pitching Lead to Game 5 Victory

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Bats still silent, but clutch defense and another quality pitching performance lead to victory

5.20.13- After Friday’s disappointing loss the Goodfellas took the field 72 hours later seeking redemption. Redemption would not come easy as the Fellas faced undefeated, Grand Premiere who was in 2nd place prior to the contest.  With a gutsy defensive effort and another quality start from Pulver, the Fellas hung on to upset Grand Premiere, 3-2.

The offense, although better than Friday night, was still struggling to get base hits. Brendan Clemens and Phil Sidoti led the game off with back to back singles but the 3-5 hitters couldnt drive them in. In the third, the Fellas would strike first by scoring a run on Phil Sidoti’s RBI single and would add two more in the forth with Keith Barrell’s clutch 2 run triple. Although that would conclude the scoring for the fellas, their tremendous defense and pitching kept Grand Premiere at bay.  Notable  defensive standouts included, Matt Grill who made 2 spectacular plays in right field (was also 2/2), and Phil Sidoti who flashed the leather at first base (kind of like Jason Giambi).

This was a critical victory for the Goodfellas as tonight's match up kicked off a stretch of games against some of the best teams in the division. The Fellas will face 1st place and undefeated Elite next Friday with hopes of keeping the momentum going.

Cock Blocked: Offensive Struggles & Flat Defense Stymies Fellas

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Pulver's 7Ks not enough as Fellas offense and defense come out flat in game 4

5.18.13- After last week’s offensive display it appeared the offensive struggles from games 1 and 2 were behind the Fellas. However, in game 4, the fellas were a combined 8/32 against their opponent, Half-Cocked(one of the more interesting team names in recent memory), which lead to their demise at Mullens on a beautiful Friday evening.

It was a low scoring affair from the first pitch, as Pulver struck out 5 of the first 6 batters he faced.  Pulver would finish the game with 7 strikeouts, surpassing the franchise record he set last week with 6. The Goodfellas defense didn’t have to do much through the first 3 innings, which may have contributed to their flat defensive effort from innings 4-7. Routine plays were bobbled, cut offs were missed and it was a defensive effort the Fellas look to put behind them.

In the same light, the offensive production just wasn’t there with the Goodfellas going 8/32 as a team. Bright spots of offensive include Ryan Williams’ 2 run homer in the 6th and Mike Corcione’s 3 single evening. The only other extra base hits were contributed by Matt Grill who hit an RBI double in the 2ndand Phil Sidoti’s double in the 4th.

Very rarely will you see a pitcher strikeout someone in a game, let alone 7 strikes outs. What’s even rarer is a pitcher with 7 strikeouts losing a game 10-3. Nonetheless, the Fellas look to put this game behind them and focus on their next opponent, Grand Preimier, who is 3-0 and currently in second place.

After the game, the media had a chance to catch up with Goodfellas outfielder, Mark LeMorta.”We just didn’t get it done tonight. Maybe it was the 52 calorie beer we were drinking? I don’t know, no excuses. We will go and get it Monday night”

Mamma Mia!- Offensive Explosion, Dominate Pitching Lead to Victory

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Mother’s Day catastrophe avoided; reliable teammates, great pitching & offensive explosion put Goodfellas on top

5.12.13 - After their dramatic win last week, the Goodfellas looked to continue the momentum in Game 3 of the young 2013 season. Due to a scheduling debacle caused by league management, The Goodfellas were scheduled to play on Mother’s Day and getting the entire team together was going to be near impossible. Without Clemens, LeMorta, Ferris, Grill and Hoffman the Goodfellas turned to reliable friends to fill the void. The first hit of the afternoon came from substitute Chirs Briggs who would come on to score on Dan Ciampino’s base hit. In the second, the Fellas added 3 more with Bill Pulver’s 3 run inside the park home run; scoring Mike Corcione and John Pulver who both had base hits. In the third, Dan Ciampino and Keith Barrell had back to back singles and scored on Mike “The Clutch Italian” Corcione’s double. Corcione would then come onto score on Bill Pulver’s SAC Fly, giving the Goodfellas a 7-0 advantage.

McDemott’s Garage would go on to add 2 runs in the bottom of the third but the Fellas struck right back with 2 more runs, led by Chris Briggs' double and Ryan Williams’(clearly struggglinnnn) RBI single. Dan Ciampino & Keith Barrell would add 2 more base hits to their resume and Ciampino would score on yet another big hit from Mike Corcione. In the 5th, Bill Pulver led off the inning with an opposite field triple and would come on to score from ol’e reliable, Pat Loftus’s base hit. Phil Sidoti then got a base hit followed by an RBI single from Chris Briggs. McDermotts would go on to add another run but it was clear that the Fellas were going to run away with this one. In the 6th Dan Ciampino led off with a double and would score on Keith Barrell’s sac fly.

In the 7th, Chris Smith led off with a triple and would score on Phil Sidoti’s RBI single. Chris Briggs added another double and the Sidoti-Briggs duo would score on Ryan Williams' 2 run triple. Keith Barrell drove Williams in with a double and the Fellas were well on their way to a commanding 17-4 victory. Defensively the Goodfellas looked fantastic and pitcher John Pulver, although walked 8 batters, had a tremendous game; setting the franchise record for most strikeouts in a game with 6. McDermotts Garage could not catch up the Pulver’s fastball and he was almost unhittable.

Pulver looks to work on the number of walks allowed in future games but was pleased with his effort. His brother, Bill Pulver, expressed his displeasure with the number of walks during the game by reminding John just how many he had. There was no on field altercation between the brothers but a post game brawl was intimate. However, media outlets have reported that the brothers embraced after the game and proceeded to Burger King.

Equalizer: Ace's Gem, Clutch Italian Deliver First Win

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Ace’s gem, gold glove defense and clutch hitting deliver the first win of the season

5.3.13 - After last week’s tough loss in the season opener, the Goodfellas looked for redemption against Bezaors. New ace, John Pulver made his season debut and he did not disappoint. Pulver threw a tremendous game and kept the Goodfellas in the game with support from gold-glove caliber defense all around. Pulver's rough first inning (allowing 3 runs), was a distant memory by the 7th inning as he settled down and turned in a quality performance.

Offensively, Brendan Clemens got things started with a lead off double and would come in to score on Phil Sidoti’s RBI single.  In the second, Matt Grill hit a triple and would score on John Pulver’s RBI single to trim the deficient to 1.  Pulver continued to pitch well shutting down Bezoars through the 2nd and 4thinning while the Goodfellas tied it up in the bottom of the 4th with an RBI single from Mike Corcione, scoring Dan Ciampino. In the 5th, Bezoars scored a run to take the lead and added 3 more in the top of the 7th to take a 7-3 advantage.

The Goodfellas, whose offense was sluggish would have to score 5 runs in the bottom of the 7th in order to avoid going 0-2.  John Pulver led the bottom of the 7th off with a single followed by a single from Brendan Clemens. Phil Sidoti then hit an RBI single and Ryan Williams' single and Brian Hoffmans walk loaded the bases for Keith Barrell. Keith hit a sac fly, followed by an rbi single from Dan Ciampino to tie the game. With the game tied with one out and runners on first and second, Mike Corcione hit a clutch RBI single to deliver the dramatic win for the  Goodfellas.

Mowed Down: Fellas Drop Opener In Close Game

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Sub-par offense, premium defense; inbalance leads to a narrow loss and an 0-1 start for the Goodfellas.

After a roster shuffle and offseason physical preparation, the Goodfellas came into the season opener healthy and ready to go. The season begins with many unanswered questions including how their new ace would perform, could the team come back 100% healthy, could LeMorta & Williams lead the triple crown race, how would new comer Billy Ferris perform and will the nickname “propane” ever (and I mean ever) stick with Matt Grill?

· For starters, the Fellas would have to wait one more week to see their new ace in action. Due to a conflicting work schedule, pitcher John Pulver could not make the season opener, resulting in reliever, Phil Sidoti getting the opening day nod.

· The team came into the game healthy, with the expectation of Brian Hoffman’s sprained ankle which didn’t appear to be a problem in the opener.

· As advertised, LeMorta & Williams brought the goods offensively with two triples and two doubles a piece (combining for 4 RBI)

· Billy Ferris flashed the leather at second base and did well at the plate in his first official game

· Although “propane” was mentioned when Grill reached based, it still appears that the nickname has not stuck.

In the opener the Fellas took on Complete Lawn Care, a team they have defeated in the past.  Prior to the contest, the Goodfellas were pleased to welcome back Chris Briggs who came out of retirement this year to play a few games for the Goodfellas. Phil Sidoti got things started with the first Goodfellas hit in 2013. He would later come around to score on an RBI double by Brian Hoffman to take a 1-0 lead. Sidoti would then take the mound in the bottom of the 1st and he had trouble getting settled down, allowing 3 runs in the first. In the 3rd inning, Matt Grill led off with a base hit and Brendan Clemens reached on a fielder’s choice. Ryan Williams then hit a bullet to right field for an RBI triple. He would then come on to score after Mark LeMorta followed up with a triple of his own.

In the bottom of the third, Sidoti got into trouble by loading up the bases. However, the Goodfellas defense made excellent plays to only allow one run to score. This would be a familiar theme as the game progressed and Sidoti kept getting out of trouble thanks to his defense. Incredible plays were made by LeMorta, Briggs, Barrell & Ferris. In the 5th the Goodfellas added 2 more runs with back to back RBI doubles from Williams & LeMorta but that would end the Goodfellas scoring for the night as they fell to Complete Lawn Care with a final score of 7-5.
