Rynomite! - William's Cycle, 7 RBI's Fuels Propane Driven Comeback

8.15.12- With playoff hopes gone and 2013 already on the minds of Goodfellas management, the Goodfellas looked to end the year on a high note. Through the lineup lottery, John Pulver took the mound for the Goodfellas and struggled early, allowing 5 runs in the first. Sidoti, shifted from EH to the pitcher’s mound in the second and allowed one run. The Goodfellas would respond with 2 runs on a 2 RBI single from Matt Grill and trailed 6-2. Duke’s Barber Shop (1-14) then put up another 6 runs off Sidoti in the third and led 12-2 and it looked like the Fellas were going to end the season with a crushing loss. Just when the Fellas looked down and out they got a little spark from Dan Ciampino and Keith Barrell, who led off the third with a base hit. Ryan Williams then smashed a mammoth 3 run shot to reduce the deficit to 7. Duke then put up another run in the 4th to take a 13-5 lead.

It was now the bottom of the 4th, with the Goodfellas trailing by 8 in the final game of a season full of injuries and missed opportunities. At that moment you could sense the frustration in the dugout and could see in each player’s eyes that they had enough. That thought of the lost season and the potential of a blow-out loss to a 1-14 team set a fire to the Fella’s offense that we’ve never seen before. John Pulver and Dustin Teta started the inning off with a base hit followed by an RBI single from Matt Grill (on fire). Mike Corcione then hit an RBI single followed by a 2 run double from Dan Ciampino. Keith Barrell then reached with a single followed by a 2 run double by Ryan Williams. Phil Sidoti, Brian Hoffman and Brendan Clemens would then each hit singles and Pat Loftus followed with an RBI single. Dustin Teta then stepped up to the plate and hit a Grand Slam to right field.

The Goodfellas put up 12 runs and found themselves ahead 17-13 in an inning that will go down as one of the best offensive showings in team history. But the Fellas weren’t done just yet and put up another 4 runs in the 5th inning. Ryan Williams, Phil Sidoti and Brian Hoffman each hit singles followed by an RBI single from Brendan Clemens. Pat Loftus then hit a single followed by a 2 run double from John Pulver. Dustin Teta would then hit a SAC fly for the 4th run.

The Goodfellas defense kept Duke’s Barber Shop at bay with incredible plays made by Ryan Williams and Matt Grill in the field. The Fellas then delivered the knockout punch in the 6th by adding another 5 runs. Mike Coricone started the inning with a double and would score on Dan Ciampino’s RBI single. Keith Barrell would reach first by getting hit by the pitch and Ryan Williams crushed a 2 run triple, raising his RBI total to 7 on the night and completing the cycle. Phil Sidoti then hit an RBI double followed by an RBI single from Brian Hoffman to give the Goodfellas a 26-15 victory.

Although a disappointing season, the last game of the year turned out to be one of the most entertaining games the Fellas had played in team history. With the final chapter of 2012 season written, the Goodfellas look to regroup and prepare to pursue championship glory in 2013.

Struggle Continues - Fella's Lose for 5th Straight Loss

With playoff hopes completely gone the Goodfellas once again pulled their lineup out of a hat. This time the draw featured most of the Goodfellas offensive producers at the bottom of the order with some of their less then nimble footed players manning the outfield. Keith Barrell led off the game with a solo shot deep to left field to score the Goodfellas first run. Brendan Clemens then came up and scorched a double down the line for a double but was left stranded. In the second, Brian Hoffmann got things started with a single followed by Mark LeMorta’s steroidal 2-run shot to center. Barrell, by the grace of God, pulled the starting pitcher slip prior to the game and was throwing a quality game.

After two innings, the Fellas trailed 4-3 but according to the official score (which conveniently happens to be Keith Barrell) all 4 runs were unearned. A few defensive blunders can be attributed to those 4 runs but it should be noted that the Goodfellas infield looked the best they’ve looked in months. One play in particular featured a hot shot down the third baseline which was knocked down by Bill Pulver. Pulver fired over to Brendan Clemens at second for the first out and a tough off balanced throw from Clemens with a beautiful scoop by Teta at first completed the double play. Ryan Williams also made a few spectacular plays over at short along with Dustin Teta flashing the leather at first, showing shades of his Colonie baseball days.

The game also featured Mark LeMorta behind the plate for the first time in his career and he did an excellent job keeping Barrell’s rhyme in line. His glove work behind the plate also kept the game moving at a good clip. The Goodfellas were able to add another run in the 4th led by a double from Dustin Teta who came into score on an RBI single from Hoffman. Regeneron tacked on another run as well which put the Fellas down 5-4. However, in the bottom of the 6th Regeneron put up another 4 runs to take a 9-4 led, in which the Goodfellas could not overcome.

Hat Trick: Fellas New Approach After Playoff Elimination

The Goodfella’s loss last week had eliminated them from the 2012 postseason. What is a team to do once their playoff hopes are over?

Well in this case, the Fella’s decided to have some fun and will pull the lineup out of a hat (literally) for the rest of the season. Who wouldn’t want to see Dan Ciampino play center field or Mike Corcione play short stop? They picked a great time to try this approach as well; against first place power house Toyota of Clifton Park. To make matters worse the Goodfellas only had 9 players. 9 players and everybody out of position against the best team in the league? Why not?

With this approach, who would have though the Goodfellas would be leading 3-2 going into the 5th inning? Phil Sidoti took the mound for the Goodfellas and with unbelievable defense from the field the Goodfellas kept things interesting. Although Sidoti was pitching well, web gem after web gem kept the game alive. Brian Hofmann, the center fielder on this day, made a diving catch with many people rubbing their eyes to make sure it wasn’t Dustin Teta! Brendan Clemens in right fielder made a spectacular diving catch in the gap to end Toyota’s threat in the 3rd. Shortstop Ryan Williams also made a handful of great plays to keep Toyota off the base paths.

But of course, all good things must come to an end. In the 5th, Toyota absolutely dismantled the Goodfellas by scoring 13 runs with base hit after base hit. Toyota never looked back and ended up smothering the Fellas by a final score of 23-6. Regardless of the outcome, the Fellas are trying to make the best of a bad situation as their hopes from championship glory will have to wait until 2013.

DAMN

7.13.12- On this hot evening in July, The Goodfellas knew they needed to win out if they wanted a shot at the playoffs. However, on this night the Goodfellas saw their post season run come to an end as their 19-5 loss to the Elite franchise essentially eliminated them from playoff contention. After the first two innings Elite led by a score of 10-0 led by mammoth home runs and quality base hits. The Goodfellas only had 1 hit after two innings and Elite’s pitcher was one of the best the Goodfellas seen this year. In the 3rd, Elite would go on to score 5 more runs and were ahead 15-0. However, the Goodfellas showed some life in the fourth as Mark LeMorta led off with a single followed by another single from Brian Hoffman.

Phil Sidoti then hit a 2 RBI double to get the Goodfellas on the board. Dan Ciampino then reached on a single, advancing Sidoti over to third. Elite then misplayed a ground ball from Mike Corcione, which allowed Sidoti and Ciampino to score. Corcione would then score on a RBI double by Bill Pulver. That would be the last of the offense for the Goodfellas as they would go scoreless the rest of the way. Elite then poured it on in the bottom of the 5th with a walk off mercy rule ending grand slam. The player who the hit the grand slam hit 4 home runs in the game and had the home run cycle (total of 11 RBI). The Goodfellas walked off the field knowing that their playoff hopes for 2012 had come to end. Ron Simmons, who is a spectator in the stands, had this to add after the Goodfellas loss. “…….. DAMN! ……”

Sun Burn: Playoff Hopes Continue to Fade With Loss

7.3.12- Colonie vs. Colonie, Undefeated vs. Underdog, it doesn’t really matter what you call it. The Goodfellas came into a must win game vs. the Sun Devils in order to remain in the hunt for the 2012 post season. The Sun Devils came into the contest a perfect 8-0 and tied for first in the North Division. The only way the Goodfellas would come out on top would be with perfect defense and timely hitting. In the first few innings, the Goodfellas were playing quality ball but defensive mishaps and big hits by the Sun Devils resulted in a potential playoff -run ending loss.

The Goodfellas played a flawless first inning by getting the first three Sun Devils out. In the bottom of the first, Brendan Clemens got things started with a base hit followed by a double from Dustin Teta. Mark LeMorta would walk to load the bases with nobody out. Ryan Williams would then go on to hit a SAC Fly to score a run. Brian Hoffman then hit into an inning ending double play.

From there, the Sun Devils would go on to score 15 unanswered runs as a result of big home runs and defensive struggles for the Goodfellas.  The Goodfellas didn’t go on to score another run until the bottom of the 7th, with a 2 out single by Dan Ciampino followed by an RBI double by Michael Corcione. Pat Loftus then reached with a single and Brendan Clemens drove in 2 with a single to center. Teta would then go on to fly out to center to end the game with a final score of 15-4.

Besides the Goodfellas poor defensive showing, they failed to get the hits when they needed and only accumulated 9 hits total in the game.  Pitcher, Dan Capoccitti pitched well but the offensive force of the Sun Devils was just too much to handle. Center fielder, Mark LeMorta would come into the game in relief of Capoccitti holding the Sun Devils hitless and earning Mark a spot on the ballot for the 2012 CY-Young Award. In a similar situation back in 2010, retired Goodfella Josh Goebel won the CY-Young with his one inning of work so it’s been done before. LeMorta made his case for the award shortly after the game: “Vote for me bitches- 0 ERA, 0WHIP.”

LeMorta would also go on to injure himself in an awkward celebration of his third recorded out. LeMorta shouldn’t miss any time with the minor injury but urination may be an issue for the next few days.

Although they still have an outside shot at making the playoffs, their offensive consistency and defensive play need to improve for any shot at championship glory.

Insult to Injury: Fellas On the Ropes After Tough Loss

Dan Ciampino is still extremely irate

6.28.12- With their recent string of losses, the Goodfellas are in jeopardy of falling too far behind to remain playoff contenders. Last week’s win appears to have been a temporary band aid to stop the bleeding after the Goodfellas collapsed again to lose to Center Square Pub 26-19, which is a devastating blow to their playoff hopes.

All started well in this game, as the Goodfellas got out of the gate quickly by scoring 6 runs in the first inning. Brendan Clemens led off the game with a base hit followed by an RBI triple by Dustin Teta. Mark LeMorta then hit an RBI single followed by Ryan Williams' RBI double. Brian Hoffman kept the momentum going with an RBI single followed by a mammoth 2 run home run shot to left for Keith Barrell. The Goodfellas would add two more runs in the second led by an RBI triple for Dustin Teta and a RBI double by Ryan Williams. The Goodfellas kept Center Square Pub scoreless through 2 and were up 8-0 going into the third. There was no question the Goodfellas were in complete control.

Then the third inning came where everything fell apart. Good hitting from Center Square Pub combined with poor defensive play by the Goodfellas allowed Center Square Pub to score 9 runs and take the lead. The poor inning absolutely drained the Goodfellas, who would go hitless in the next two innings as Center Square Pub added 4 more runs to lead 13-8. The Goodfellas would show some life in the 5 and 6th as they combined for 5 more runs to tie the game, led by a 2 run triple by Dan Capoccitti and 2 run home run by Ryan Williams. Going into the 7th the score was tied 13-13 and the Goodfellas knew their season may just come down to this inning. The top of the 7th didn’t go well, with Center Square Pub scoring 6 runs to take 19-13 lead.

The Goodfellas refused to go down without a fight and started to chip away in the bottom of the 7th. Phil Sidoti started the 7th with a lead off single followed by a single from Dan Ciampino. Brendan Clemens then hit an RBI double followed by an RBI single from Dustin Teta. Mark LeMorta would ensure with a 2 run triple, with Ryan Williams driving him in with a single. Dan Capoccitti kept the inning going with a clutch single and Keith Barrell hit a clutch 2 out RBI single to tie the game. With runners on the first and second with two outs, Phil Sidoti would come up with a chance to win the game for the Goodfellas and cap off the comeback for the win. Sidoti couldn’t get the hit the Goodfellas needed as he flyed out to right center field to force extra innings.

Center Square Pub would go on to score 7 runs in the top of 8th and the Goodfellas went silent in the bottom of the 8th to drop one of the toughest losses in franchise history. Players were notably down and center fielder, Mark LeMorta had this to share with the media: “I really thought we were going to comeback in the 7th and get it done.  It’s very disappointing since we know we are the better team.”

Catcher Dan Ciampino also had comments for the media but they contained too many expletives to be posted in the post game.  He was angry.

The Goodfellas, short staffed and injuried, now face the undefeated Sun Devils on Tuesday July 3, in an absolute must win situation.

Cookin' On The Grill: Fella's Bounce Back With Critical Victory

After 3 consecutive losses featuring poor offensive production and defensive mishaps, the Goodfellas came into this game knowing another loss would greatly hinder their hopes of making the playoffs.  Their opponent, Red Square (3-4) came into the game with a similar situation with a record below .500.  Fully rested and mentally focused, the Goodfellas were able to survive and won 11-9 in a back and forth match up at the Field of Dreams.

Red Square started off the game by scoring 3 runs with the Goodfellas striking back with 4 of their own in the bottom of the 1st. Brendan Clemens led off with a single to left and advanced to third on a defensive blunder by Red Square. Dustin Teta then hit a sac fly to score Clemens followed by a walk for Mark LeMorta and a single by Brian Hoffman.  Dan Capoccitti then drove LeMorta in with an RBI single followed by Phil Sidoti’s RBI single for the 4th run. The Goodfellas kept the hits coming with another 3 runs in the second led by an RBI ground out by Teta, an RBI single by LeMorta and an RBI double by Ryan Williams. Red Square would then come back to score two more in the 3rd with the Goodfellas putting another run on the board in the bottom of the third led by Keith Barrell’s leadoff triple and Sidoti’s RBI single.

The Goodfellas would add another three runs in the 6th inning with Brendan Clemens hitting a two out double in which he would come into score on Dustin Teta’s RBI double. LeMorta would then hit an RBI triple to score Teta and LeMorta would end of scoring on yet another defensive blunder by Red Square.

Red Square’s defensive was spotty in this game but the Goodfellas showed their defensive strength with excellent plays made all the way around. Defensive standout and player of the game, Matt Grill, made 2 critical plays to end rallies for Red Square. His gold glove caliber defense saved a few runs, which ended up being the difference in this game. Pitcher Dan Capoccitti pitched yet another complete game, with great defensive plays and good pitching.

Although the Goodfellas pulled away with the victory there is still much work to be done if they want to stay playoff contenders. The Fellas look to build on the momentum for tomorrow night’s game vs. Center Square Pub.

Double the Struggle: Fella’s In Jeopardy After Double Header Mishap

An extremely irate Dan Ciampino

6.21.12- Going into the double header the Goodfellas knew they had their hands full with the Dominican All Stars and Balls Deep, but felt prepared and ready to go on this scorhing hot day at the Field of Dreams. Many questions were swirling prior to the game including how Sidoti would respond coming of the DL, whether Capoccitti could go the distance in back to back games and whether the Goodfellas could hang in there long enough offensively to advance to 5-3.

Game 1 featured the Dominican Allstars, regarded as one of the best all-around teams in the league. The Goodfellas would have to play their best game of the year to knock off the undefeated bunch of latin players. The Dominican’s came out swinging with 4 runs in the top of the first but the Goodfellas responded with 2 runs led by LeMorta and William’s RBI singles. The Dominicans would then go on to score 6 more runs over the next couple of innings putting them up 10-2 after 5.5 innings of play. The Dominican pitcher was easily the best pitcher the Goodfellas faced this year and the faster speed appeared to throw the Goodfellas off their rhythm.

In the 6th inning, a mental lapse by the one of the Dominican players caused their starting pitcher to be removed from the game. Their shortstop threw a warmup pitch in fun but according to the umpire, if a warmup pitch is thrown by another player the current pitcher must be removed from the game. With the new pitcher in the game, The Goodfellas started to get their stroke back, scoring 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th. The 4 run drive was led by Williams 2 RBI triple and Barrell’s RBI triple. Ciampino added the 4thrun with an RBI SAC fly to left fielder, which some thought had a chance of leaving the ball park.

Defensively the Goodfellas played well, with Capoccitti pitching a decent game. Although the Fella’s struggled offensively, the main story here was the Dominicans were just a better team on this night and ended up winning 12-6. If the Goodfellas were to face this team in the playoffs, the Fellas would be in the thick of things. It should be noted that to this point, the Goodfellas have come the closest to beating the Dominicans.

After a 20 minute break, the Goodfellas looked to regroup and take on the 2-4 Balls Deep franchise. The Goodfellas, exhausted and frustrated from the previous game, wasted little time getting on the board by putting up 5 runs in the 1st. The scoring drive was led by William’s 2 RBI triple followed by an RBI single by Hoffman. Sidoti then hit a RBI double followed by Ciampino’s RBI single to produce the 5th run. Things were looking bright for the Fellas, but Balls Deep put up 7 runs in the top of 2nd.  The Goodfellas then went silent for 2 innings and did not produce a run until the 4th, in which they put 2 more runs on the board led by Corcione’s RBI triple and Capocciti’s RBI ground out. After 6 innings of play, the Fellas trailed 13-7 and were down to their final three outs. The Fellas showed some life as Clemens led off the inning with a single with LeMorta driving him in with a triple. Williams then followed up with an RBI triple followed by Hoffman’s RBI single. Trailing 13-10, Sidoti came up with a runner on first and flied out to end the game, dropping the Goodfellas to 3-5 on the year and putting them in the jeopardy of missing the playoffs.

Sidoti’s return from the DL didn’t go as planned, as he went 1-7 between the two games. Capoccitti pitched well considering the circumstances but the double header certainly affected his effectiveness. Sidoti had this to share with the media: “Am I disappointed in how we played tonight? No. Am I disappointed in the outcome? Yes. We certainly could have played better but we gave the #1 team in the league a decent fight. But of course there are no excuses, we knew we would be in dog fight tonight and just didn’t get it done."

When asked about the playoffs, Sidoti became defensive immediately: “There’s no question we dug ourselves in a hole but to say we’re not a playoff team? That’s foolish. We realize there is work to be done and we will take it one game at time.”

SUB PAR – Fellas Drop Tough Game to Old Rival

A distraught Dustin Teta

6.14.12- With all of the momentum the past 2 games the Goodfellas looked primed and ready to come in and collect their 4th win of the season against Matchbox. However, with a depleted roster the Goodfellas struggled to hold it together both defensively and offensively as they lost 18-10.

With Sidoti on the DL and with Hoffman, Clemens and Barrell all unavailable, the Goodfellas entered the game missing intricate parts to their lineup with the substitutes going a combined 1/9 on the night. Regardless of the substitute production, the main issue wasn't offense, it was defense as the missing Goodfellas caused holes in the field.

Due to defensive mishaps, the Goodellas trailed 7-1 after 2 innings of play. In the third, RBI singles by LeMorta and Teta followed by an RBI triple for Williams started to build some momentum. But again, the defensive woes continued with Matchbox scoring six more runs between the 3rd and 4th innings. The Goodfellas would then go on to score 2 more runs in the 5th and 6th with contributions made by Williams leading off with a double and Ciampino driving him in with an RBI single. The Goodfellas trailed 18-6 going into the 7th and started off the 7th by scoring 4 runs. The 4 runs were compiled by Williams' 2 RBI triple and RBI singles by both Grill and Corcione.

The crowd at the Field of Dreams held their breath in the 3rd when Mark LeMorta (playing SS), went down with what appeared to be a devastating knee injury. However, LeMorta would end up being ok and continue the game. Substitute, Brian Watts added "he's a drama queen, he's fine." Drama or no drama the Goodfellas are happy that LeMorta is ok and will not miss any action.

MARK-ing Their Territory: Deja Vu As Fellas Win Big

Player of the Game, Mark LeMorta, enjoys victory cigar

6.7.12-After last week’s emotional victory the Goodfellas took the field looking to replicate their big offensive numbers. It was like the Goodfellas never took a break from last week’s offensive show and poured it on as they beat Mutorcs by a score of 16 -1. The charge was led by player of the game, Mark LeMorta, who got things started with his RBI double in the first. Ryan Williams then hit an RBI single to put the Goodfellas up 2-0. In the second, Dan Capocitti led off with a triple followed by Mike Corcione’s RBI single to produce the Goodfellas third run.

LeMorta kept the offensive heat rising with a leadoff triple in the third and Williams drove him in with his second RBI single of the night. Barrell and Capocitti then followed with base hits and Mike Corcione drove in Barrell with his second RBI single. The Goodfellas led 7-1 after three innings of play, with Mutrocs virtually lifeless offensively. The Goodfellas added another whopping 10 runs in the next two innings, with extra base hits by Teta, LeMorta, Williams, Corcione and Capoccitti.

Defensively the Goodfellas looked solid which great plays made all around. Capoccitti allowed 2 hits and pitched a complete game and didn’t allow an earned run.

The story in this game, however, is the Goodfellas emergence as a consistent offensive force. Although Mutrocs are in last place, The Goodfellas have now had their third game in a row where they have scored 15 runs or more. Goodfellas center fielder, Mark LeMorta, also had one of his best games of the season, earning him the player of the game award with his 4RBI. Through just 5 games this season, LeMorta has 17 RBI and 4 HR which is a career high at this point in the season. LeMorta vowed in the offseason to improve his conditioning to boost his power numbers and his efforts are paying dividends.  LeMorta added: “This is what going to the gym every day does for you boys.” “Get your popcorn ready, I’m just getting started”

Give Birth, Hit Bombs: Goodfella's Produce Big in Victory

Player Of The Game, Dan Ciampino, with his son Vincenzo Ciampino

5.31.12.- At 11:01 in the morning Goodfellas starting catcher, Dan Ciampino, welcomed his new born son and future Goodfella Hall of Famer, Vincenzo Ciampino. This was just the start of good things to come for Ciampino who’s performance just 9 hours later will go down as one of the most epic in Goodfella’s team history. More on this to follow…

After last week’s devastating loss the Goodfellas were searching for answers and trying to solidify their identity in their 2012 campaign. The league was starting to label the Fella’s as a team that “cant close” and seal games in late innings. The Fella’s put the critics to sleep last night as they came out and had their best game of the year beating the Trollop’s franchise 16-5.

Lead off hitter, Brendan Clemens, got things going with his lead off double followed by a double by Dustin Teta. Brian Hoffman then hit an RBI single to produce the Goodfellas first run. Trollops scored one run in the first and the Goodfellas came out of the gate quick in the second. Capoccitti and Sidoti led off the inning with back to back singles followed by a pair of RBI singles by Ciampino and Corcione. Teta then hit a SAC fly for the third run followed by Mark LeMorta’s RBI single to put the Goodfellas up 5-1 after 2 innings.

After a scoreless 3rd on both sides, the Goodfella’s put up 5 more runs in the 4th  led by a 2-run home run by Ciampino and a 3 run inside the park home run for Mark LeMorta. Trollops would go on to score 3 runs in the fifth but failed to produce any further offense thereafter. The Goodfellas added on 5 more runs in the later innings led by a 3 run moon shot home run from Ryan Williams.

Although the Goodfellas put on an offensive show, it must be noted how well their defense looked with great plays made all the way around. Notable defensive standouts include pitcher Dan Capoccitti, who made 3 great plays on comebackers up the middle. Brian Hoffman and Keith Barrell flashed the leather over at short and third, with Hoffman making one of the top defensive plays of the year in the 7th inning.

It was no secret, however, on who would be named the player of the game.

Just showing up to the game 9 hours after his son was born would have gotten Ciampino the honor. Showing up and going 4-4 with a 2 run homer and 3 RBI’s puts Ciampino at first ballot hall of famer status. Ciampino had this to share with the media after the game. “I am just happy my wife, and my son are both healthy and doing well. Tonight was definitely icing on the cake”.

With much excitement around Ciampino’s performance, one must not forget the much anticipated return of Ryan Williams who came just as advertised. Everyone was really excited to see Williams make his 2012 debut and can’t wait to see him play out the rest of the season.

Although a great win and a productive night, the real theme of this game was birth. The birth of Ryan William’s season fresh off the DL, the birth of a future hall of famer and the birth of the new-look Goodfellas squad for the rest of the 2012 season.

Slippery Slope: Goodfellas Collapse Late to Drop Game 3

5.21.12-  After last week’s offensive display, the Goodfellas came into Game 3 optimistic that their hot hitting would continue on this slippery and wet Monday night showdown at the Field of Dreams.  The Goodfellas got an early run off Mark LeMorta’s towering solo shot in the first inning. However, Toyota of Clifton Park came out swinging in the bottom of the first and put 4 runs on the board with multiple home runs.

The Goodfellas struck back in the top of the 3rd by putting up 5 runs with two of the runs coming from Mark LeMorta’s two run triple. Brian Hoffman then followed with an RBI single followed by a scorching double down the left field line by Keith Barrrell. Dan Capoccitti then hit a 2 run single to conclude the offensive attack in the third. The Goodfellas then had another breakout inning in the 5th, scoring 4 runs started by LeMorta’s second round tripper of the game. Hoffman then hit a double and came into score on Barrell’s RBI Double. Capoccotti followed with a base hit and Sidoti drove in a run with his line drive to left. Ciampino then hit a sac fly to score the 5th run. Just like that the Goodfellas were leading 10-5 going into the bottom of the 5th.

The Goodfellas defense in this game was outstanding, with gold glove caliber players made by LeMorta, Barrell, Teta and Capoccitti. With their defense the Goodfellas held Toyota scoreless until the 5th and looked to be on their way. However, just like last week the opposing team started figuring out Capoccitti in late innings and started hitting the ball all over the field. Toyota of Clifton Park scored 8 runs in the bottom of the 5th to take a 13-10 lead. The Goodfellas then failed to score in the 6th and Toyota added another 5 runs to lead 18-10. The Goodfellas came into the top of the 7th needing 8 runs to force extra innings. The bats started to cook again with LeMorta leading off the 7th with a double followed by Hoffman’s RBI double. Capoccitti then got a base hit and Sidoti’s RBI single made the score 18-12. Corcione then hit a 2 run double followed by Grill’s RBI single. However, the Goodfellas weren’t able to keep it going and the game ended with a final score of 18-15.

Was last week’s near collapse an indication that the Goodfellas will struggle to close out games? Does this week’s collapse show a bigger problem at hand? Manager Phil Sidoti doesn’t think so. “The sample size is pretty small guys, I mean to say were a team that can’t close out games at this point in this season is ridiculous.” Sidoti added. “Did we let one slip away, yes but this is not an indication of our identity. At the end of the season, we will be where we need to be.”

When the media questioned Sidoti about Teta’s early season struggles he quickly snapped back. “It’s the third game fellas, Teta will be fine and he will still put up his usual numbers.” Teta is 2/10 on the young season and remains positive. “I am not going to let this continue, I will improve” said Teta. “I am devastated that our team lost, individual statistics are not what I care about.”

Goodfellas center fielder, Mark LeMorta had this to add: “We were doing work tonight, but couldn’t get the job done.” “Do I feel good about my performance, absolutely, but the way this game ended will keep me up tonight.” Since I’ll be up, feel free to ask for insurance quotes.”

Are the late inning struggles a sign of the Goodfellas identity or just an early season fling? The Goodfellas will look to rebound next Thursday as they take on Trollops at the Field of Dreams.

Sunken Ship: Goodfellas Prevail over Ships Pub for First Victory in 2012

5.17.12- After nearly a one month layoff since their tough home opener, the Goodfellas were anxious to get back on the field and put game one behind them. The fellas wasted little time with leadoff hitter, Brendan Clemens, picking up his first hit of the young season to get things started. Followed by a walk from Dustin Teta, Brian Hoffman laced a 2 run double down the left field line to give the Goodfellas an early advantage. Dan Capoccitti's base hit, followed by Phil Sidoti's RBI single put the Goodfellas up 3-0. Unlike the first game, the Goodfellas came out swinging and put on an offensive clinic through the first 3 innings, in which they led 10-1. During the offensive display, timely hitting from Hoffman, Capoccitti and Sidoti contributed to the Goodfellas early dominance.

After being up 11-1 through 3.5 innings of play, it looked as if the Goodfellas would coast to their first victory. However, the game started to slip away with Ship's Pub scoring 7 runs in the 4th, cutting the Goodfellas lead to just 3. The Goodfellas quickly answered back in the 5th with a 2-run single from Capoccitti, putting the lead up to 5.

Ships Pub fired back in the 6th with 3 more runs cutting the Goodfellas lead to just 2.

The Goodfellas took their lead into the bottom of the 7th, with just 3 outs needed to seal the victory. Ships Pub put the tying runs on base with 2 outs and were threatening with their leadoff hitter due up. A hot shot was hit down the first base line and a nice play by Sidoti ended the game to give the Goodfellas their first win of the season. Besides the final play, great defense was played all around with Keith Barrell being the defensive star of this game. Great plays were also made by Mark LeMorta, Dustin Teta & Brendan Clemens.

This game also featured special guest Chris Briggs, who filled in for Ryan Williams who is still on the DL. In what appears to be Briggs' last game of his career, he went out with a victory and had a great defensive game. An emotional Briggs shared his appreciation for playing tonight. "I want to thank the Goodfellas organization for giving me the opportunity to play tonight" said Briggs. "I had a blast tonight and am glad I was able to contribute to the victory; it's been a great ride."

With the Goodfellas swinging the hot bats, they look to add another win on to their 2012 resume Monday night against Toyota of Clifton Park.

Goodfellas Miss Their Cue– Drop Season Opener

A distraught Dustin Teta

4.25.12 - In the much anticipated  2012 season opener the Goodfellas came in ready to strike after their offensive show in their scrimmage last week. However, on this cold windy night in April, the Goodfellas struggled offensively, going 6 for 28 as a team and lost 11-2 to Golden Cue.  Scouts predicted the Goodfellas might struggle with the better pitching in the B North division but tonight’s pitcher was hittable; the Goodfellas simply came out flat.

Golden Cue got on the board early scoring 7 runs in the first inning off starting pitcher Dan Capoccitti. The Goodfellas struck back with a solo shot by Dustin Teta to start the bottom of the first but didn’t have another hit until Brian Hoffman’s double in the 4th. In the second, Golden Cue added 3 more runs but Capoccitti settled down and kept them scoreless until the 6th. The Goodfellas scored their second run in the 6th inning off of Mark Lemorta’s monster shot to right center field. Barrell added a triple in the bottom of the 7th, but offensively the Goodfellas just didn’t produce. Defensively the Goodfellas played respectable, with gold glove caliber plays made by Teta and Pulver.

Manager, Phil Sidoti, was still optimistic when speaking with the media after the game. “I wouldn’t push the panic button just yet” said Sidoti. “We came out flat tonight, but we have a quality club and we will be ready for the next game.” The Goodfellas look to regroup for next week’s game vs the Dominicon All- Stars on May 3rd.
