2013 CHAMPIONS

BREAKING NEWS: GOODFELLAS CAPTURE FIRST TITLE IN FRANCHISE HISTORY!

PASTA BOWL BREAKDOWN: Big hitting and great defense and pitching lead Fellas to first title in franchise history

9.4.13- Fresh off their big victory last week in the playoffs, the Fellas were one win away from clinching their first championship in franchise history. It was a packed crowd at the Field of Dreams, with many friends, family and even former Goodfellas in attendance to witness the Goodfellas attempt at making history. The Fellas faced Complete Lawn Care, a team they had beaten just 2 weeks ago 7-0 and lost to in the 2013 season opener. The Fellas, who have been on an offensive tear lately, had to keep the momentum going to finish the season on the top. Before the Fellas took the field, Phil Sidoti & Ryan Williams gave an emotional pre game speech and Mark LeMorta led the “DO WORK” send off as the Fellas ran onto the field in search of their first title. During Williams’s portion of the speech, it was somewhat difficult to understand what he was saying, probably due to the massive amount of chewing tobacco in his mouth.

The Fellas struck first by scoring 1 run in the bottom of the first fueled by Mark LeMorta’s base hit and Ryan Williams monster RBI triple. LeMorta was seen grabbing his junk before stepping into the box, a possible sign that he is still not fully healed from his injury 2 weeks ago. When he went back to the bench, fans in the stands have reported that LeMorta put some ice cubes down his pants to potentially help with the swelling (bulge was due to swelling and by no means a representation of the size of the LeMorta Jack Hammer at full health).

In the second, the Fellas took one big step towards clinching the title by scoring 10 runs. Brian Hoffman and Mike Corcione led off with back to back singles and Hoffman would score on Keith Barrells’ RBI double. Mike Corcione (like a gazelle) advanced to third on aggressive base running and would score, along with Barrell, on Bill Pulver’s2 run single. John Pulver then added a base hit followed by an RBI double from Phil Sidoti. Mark LeMorta then hit a frozen rope 2 run double and Ryan Williams continued his hot hitting with an RBI single. Dan Ciampino then hit a sac fly followed by an RBI single from Brian Hoffman and big RBI triple by Mike Corcione. Keith Barrell concluded the scoring with an RBI single. The Fellas were now up 11-0 going into the third and appeared to be on their way.

Defensively the Fellas looked solid, with tremendous plays all round. Defensive standouts included Ryan Williams who made 2 highlight reel plays and Phil Sidoti who made great plays at first base. Kieth Barrell and Bill Pulver also synced up to make a big play and threw a runner out at third. It was one of the first plays of the game, and a big out to set the tone. Barrell threw the ball so hard, that Ryan Williams may need to “switch hands” when he gets home.  However, in the fifth, Complete Lawn Care would score 5 runs but the Fellas answered right back with 4 runs. John Pulver hit a triple and would score on Brendan Clemen’s SAC FLY. Sidoti would draw walk followed by a base hit from LeMorta and Williams would add an RBI double. Dan Ciampino then hit a 2 run single to now put the Fellas up 15-7.

The Fellas were on pace to mercy Complete Lawn Care and added another 4 runs to completely seal the deal in the 4th. Mike Corcione got it started with a base hit and Pat Loftus, who went into the game for Keith Barrell, hit a double. Bill Pulver then hit a SAC FLY and John Pulver added an RBI single. Phil Sidoti & Mark LeMorta would then add back to back RBI doubles to put the Fellas up 19-7, which would be enough to mercy Complete Lawn Care and lead the Fellas to their first championship in franchise victory.  Coach Phil Sidoti was voted MVP of the championship game.

Covered in champagne and taking pictures with Frank Rogers, Commissioner of the league, Coach Phil Sidoti expressed his jubilation. “We finally did it, got our first title. I am proud of these guys, each and every one of them”. Mark LeMorta added the following statement:  “We did work! Finally champs! Now if you would excuse me I need to go ice my junk”.  Below is a summary of what each Goodfella said after the game to the media:

Brendan Clemens: “Huge win, finally got one!”
Ryan Williams: “HOOOOOOOOOO!”
Dan Ciampino: “Yea Bitch!”
Brian Hoffman: “This feels so much better than playing basketball”
Mike Corione: “I am happy”
Keith Barrell: “I am pissed I didn’t get to close the game, but is it too early to talk repeat?”
Loftus: “At least coach didn’t forget me on the lineup card this time….”
Bill & John Pulver: “Screw Disney World! We’re going to Dennys!”

Sidoti Cleared to Play Opening Day

After a disappointing 2012 season full of injuries, Goodfellas 1st basemen Phil Sidoti spent the offseason trying to get healthy. The Goodfellas made an investment in hiring team trainer, Christopher Tomaselli (Owner of Rotterdam Family Chiropractic) and it appears to have paid off. Sidoti is taking batting practice and participating in on field drills. He is scheduled to start opening day.
